Improving safety is one of the reasons some racing has moved to putting minimum pitstop times in place. Reduces the need to do a stop in record time, if you stop it is for a minimum of X seconds.

In the 1950's when the late Peter Collins was driving for Ferrari, he would get out of the cockpit at pit stops and jump up on the pit counter well out of the way. Those days they used to refuel with churns and funnels. One stop a crew member missed the funnel and dumped the fuel into the cockpit all over Collins. Ferrari pitstops were likened to a scene from a comic opera. Cars falling off jacks, knock offs not tightened etc, hand waving, gesticulating, excited Italian imprecations and so on. I wonder what they thought when they went to Sebring or Indianapolis and saw professional pit crews dump in 30 gallons of fuel, change a couple of tyres, give the driver a drink and clean goggles in a remarkably short time.

Yep in slow mo you can see the first bloke will need a ice pack. :) The rest were cleaned up by a Tyre and the hose. As posted in the comments below the video. It was poor house keeping by that pit crew.

The current record is held by McLaren, at 2.31 seconds for 4 tyres. Stop to go. Try getting your local kmart to do that.
Let alone last night the crews letting out a car at the same time that the car in the next box is pulling in and it takes out the cars and crews. Not to mention someone almost loosing their head in the first corner accident.
