View Full Version : Have you got it to squat at speed?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering what speed setting the car has for it to squat into 'excess speed height' and whether it shows that setting on the driver console?

I haven't had much opportunity here to try it (in the nanny state) but I'm originally from UK and would do 95 -100mph happily on motorway. I'm guessing that would squat it?

I always thought it was 160kph

Unless you have LLAMS of course which you can select at any speed which is good fun on twisty roads ;)

Yes, at above 160 kph it does squat so to speak.

I tried to on a long straight stretch between Winton and Longreach. No luck? Took for ever to get to 100mph !

From the WSM...

High Speed Mode

In later software a high speed mode is introduced. High speed mode is a non-selectable, automatic mode which lowers the vehicle height by 20 mm to improve vehicle handling. This feature is fully automated and is 'invisible' to the driver.

If the vehicle speed exceeds 100 mph (160 km/h) for more than 5 seconds, the air suspension control module initiates the high speed mode. When the vehicle speed reduces to less than 80 mph (130 km/h) for more than 30 seconds, the vehicle returns to 'on-road' height. This function is cancelled if a trailer is connected to the trailer socket.

A guy I know recons his 3.0l gets to 160 pretty easy, in fact 187 (indicated) and he reported no sensation or indication of lowering.

Maybe he wasn't there long enough...I'll have to tell him.....;)

Funny that the function is cancelled if towing. You'd think the car might have something to say about someone attempting to tow at 160km/h.

You need to be doing >100mph for >1min, then the car will 'squat' slightly.

Of course, I only ever see this on the test track and have never seen it on the late night runs from London on the M4...

I am impressed with the 3.0l with regard passing power, as on a recent trip when passing road trains in the west, I often saw 150-160 kmh as I was pulling left again. I just floor the throttle in S mode as I like to get around quickly because I feel so vunerable on the wrong side of the road beside them.
The general stability also at that speed on roads that are VERY ordinary was also impressive, but remembering I have come from a Nissan Patrol.
Having said all of that I did not notice any lowering at all.

You have to hold over 160 for quite a while before it hunkers down...

Dont know where you were trying "smwilk" maybe high altitude?

My 2.7L roars through 160.... I've had it sitting at 180 quite comfortably.

Yep ............. mine too.

Between Coolgardie and Southern Cross there's some good sections of road. Takes about a minute above 160 before the suspension drops. ;)

Guys, this discussion could be incriminating in this "fine" country. I'd be careful about discussing locations and speeds...... yes I know, I'm paranoid, but you never know who's reading. :(

The new (to-be released) RR Vogue will squat at 100kph - makes it safer to talk about :)

Cheers,

Gordon

Oh so true !!

But maybe this leads to a different question....

Can a D3 be made to squat @ a lower speed (above 6kph:)
