New front drivers cushion

Today I started to replace the drivers seat cushion. The D2 has done 268xxx km and there are bits of foam under the drivers seat so I thought it would be a quick little job to cheer up SWMBO.

Exmoor Trim seat base $114 for the base and diaphragm :D $111 for freight :(
Mind you it arrived in three days over a weekend so I'm not complaining too much.

Pulled the seat out, removed the cover and washed it. Washed it again. Looked at the lovely new foam looked at the seat cover.

Fitted the diaphragm. Looked at the lovely new foam base with the holes in it for the cable ties to go through that attach to the metal rods in the seat cover and thought to myself "there is something missing here".

Metal rods in seat cover - check, holes through the foam - check, cable ties - check. What do the cable ties go around on the opposite side of the foam to the seat cover?

Anybody our there got any ideas because I'm stumped. :confused::confused::confused:

I'm just repairing my cover and I bought a newer foam off someone on here, it's an original foam so has the metal rods embedded in it. Perhaps run a rod under the foam and pass the zip ties through to that?

The original cushions are only about £40 and shipping £30-40. What was the advantage of going with the exmoor cushion?

The Exmoor Trim cushions are 48 pounds each to not a lot of difference in price. The foam is a different type from the original with some good support/wear resistant parts on the side. Whether they are better or not I do not know, they do have a very good reputation.

A lot of people only swap the cushion, which in my opinion is a wast of time as the spring support underneath will also have sagged. A bit like sticking a new mattress on an old spring bed. Exmoor trim do a diaphragm for 26 pounds so I bought the two together.

I've not done any long journeys yet, but a quick test made me realise that I was now sitting higher up. The only issue is that the passenger seat looks tired and sagging compared to the drivers seat.....
