G'day all, I'll be heading down to Sale to pick up a horse cart soon, maybe this weekend, and am looking for a out of the way camp for me and my 3 boys. Is there anything about?
As long as its reasonable close to Sale. I'm easy.

How out of the way do you want ? There's a decent camp spot at a park just before you enter Rosedale, nice overnighter if that's what you want. Either way you pass it on the way to Sale.
Another good option with the boys could be take the road out of Sale to Golden Beach and camp (free) in the T tree along the foreshore. Good surf fishing if that's your thing or just enjoy the ambience.
Cut back to the Highway at Rosedale for the return trip.

Hi

Not much really close to Sale sorry. Depends on what your looking for

Try Springberg lane to camp its about 5 km's from Sale on the Avon river

Or maybe

Marlay Point 15 Km's from Sale on Lake Wellington

I definitely would NOT go towards Longford there is a flood warning on the LaTrobe River.

Either sounds good, do you have any direction or locations for them? We are coming from puckapunyal. Trying to avoid the city.

Springberg Lane, Perry Bridge is 31km from Sale. Marley Point must be round 20km. Its been very windy today, and still some wind forecast this weekend. Not real flash for camping with kids.

see......... West and South Gippsland District (http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/westsouthgippsland.shtml)

An onsite c'van or cabin might be easier in this weather.

Bugger all firewood at either place mentioned above.

Check out this sight. List lots of campsites with descriptions, directions and GPS co-ords. We use it all the time to plan trips.

Coming through the city at the weekend, straight down the Hume and onto the Princes Freeway would be the quickest and easiest route.

The 'scenic route' would probably be Puka, Seymour, Yea, Toolangi, Healesville, Woori Yallock, Cockatoo, Pakenham and onto the Princes Fwy. It is a scenic route but the Healesville - Koo-wee-rup Rd is single lane and pretty windy. Depends whether you and the kids want to see the big smoke or the bush.

Just before you enter Rosedale on the Princess Hwy there's a Park/Picnic Area on the RHS which is a popular spot for overnighters, bugger all to see but it's on the way. As you leave Rosedale (heading East) you go over a long bridge and if you look down to the left there's an old bridge and another popular overnight spot.

But for my money I'd camp on the foreshore near Golden Beach. Very protected amongst the T tree and 'long drop' dunnys available and best of all it's free. The Longford road out of Sale used to be cut regularly by the LaTrobe River but there's been a lot of money spent on new road/bridges over the last couple of years so isn't nearly as bad as it was. If the road's closed, no big deal, head back to Rosedale and C485 to Golden Beach. Turn right and head down towards Delray Beach (about 4km ?). When the power lines (RHS) end go along a bit further till theres a big clearing on the RHS and camp in on the left. As I said plenty of shelter, long drop dunny(s), good surf beach/fishing and a Km or so walk down the beach to the wreck of the Trinculo. Very pleasant. Really you can camp anywhere along here but down past Delray is closer to the wreck.

As someone said, BYO firewood if you want a fire. Nearest store is at Golden Beach

Briagalong is fairly close to Sale, anywhere along the Briagalong to Dargo Rd on Freestone Creek is good.
