View Full Version : A/C Vent Blockage?

Hi, Since I bought my 2006 110 last year the air from the aircon only appears to come out of the 2 vents on the passenger side. Even on full bore it is only a trickle on the drivers side.

Last time it had a service I mentioned it to the mechanic. When I picked it up a couple of days later I asked him about it and he said it was because the bit near the gearstick narrows so less cold air gets across.

Frankly I thought this sounded like complete b******s, and proved this by trying 2 of my friends A/C in there Defenders, one a 2002 110 the other a 2003 130.In both of these the air came through just as strong on both sides.

So obviously I have some kind of blockage. Has anyone else had this?

Do I need to pull half the dashboard and aircon out to get to the internal piping?

Also, when I do have the aircon on for a while I seem to end up with a small puddle on the passenger side floor.

I have tried doing a search on a number of forums but have turned up little info so any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I am happy driving around most of the time with the window down, but when the wife is in the car or I am doing a 100 clicks on the freeway I have to have the A/C on, I don't fancy another summer with half the A/C working:Thump:

Hi
I have 1996 defender and the AC is different but suffers same performance issues. It freezes the passengers knees and the driver swelters.

I pulled the vents very carefully out of the holes and fished out some tape and plastic and other debris. I think there are holes where the speaker sits that were covered by this tape etc but the "stick" ran out on the tape so broke free. Maybe you can pull out a vent and look with a mirror and torch or poke a wire through the duct?
Dont break the vent, they cost as much as a Mars mission!

problem with mine is the water does not drain out of the unit. It sloshes around. Both drain pipes clear. I am advised pulling it apart and modifying the internals will fix the issue but requires de-gas and re-gas.

Cheers
