Are you talking about replacing the original sedimenter down by the tank, or the main fuel filter.
I'm running one instead of the original sedimenter on my County as I figure going from no filter to any filter is an improvement.
You'd want to be sure it was doing a better job than your main filter if you were looking to replace that instead.

Provided you're talking 200/300tdi ( Td5 is a different matter entirely)

You can do either or both. Although it's a bit more fiddly than the spin on fuel filter, the 296 cartridge is used everywhere, and is cheaper.
Depends on where you go and how often you plan on replacing fuel filters I guess.

It's for a 200tdi I want replace the engine bay filter so I can see what's happening. There is no rear sedimenter on my 1993 defender.
The link seem to answer most of my questions there seem to be several different ways to plumb the fuel lines into the unit so will do some research .

if you dont have the sedimentor (who stole it?) install it where the sedimentor should be and leave the OEM filter in place.
