Gold panning and offroading?

Hi guys,

My name is Dave. I've had my 110 Td5 for around 2 years and have done a few day trips around the Sydney area but not too much further.

My mate and I have recently got the bug for gold panning and were wondering if anyone new some good areas to go for a bit of fun 4 wheeling and maybe get lucky with finding a bit of colour!

Was thinking somewhere around Oberon/Hampton state forest? Any info on areas and also where to get good maps would be great!

There are several places around, Hillend and sofala both have gold and places to 4wd. I go to hillend 3 or 4 times a year some good tracks even if the bridle track stays closed cheap camping in both places for over nighters:)

I used to go to Nundle a fair bit when I lived over that way. Scratching around in the river at the back of the caravan park used to keep me amused then up into Barrington for a bit of a drive.

Adelong used to have a Gold fossicking area just outside town, got a 1/4 oz. there a while back just using goggles, snorkel and tweezers and glass vial, down Tumut way, Regards Frank.
