So by now I'm sure a few of you have received LRA's invites to see/register for the new RR. For those of you that haven't, compared to the outgoing L322:

20mm longer, slightly wider and lower, 100mm longer wheelbase
all-alloy body and frame, 420kg weight saving for the base model
better approach/departure, but slightly lower ramp-over angle - 900mm wading depth
3.0 TDV6, 4.4 TDV8, 5.0 S/C, all tweaked! No std 5.0 V8
Terrain Response 2, basically the system from the DC100
Gen 2 air suspension
HSE, Vogue, Vogue SE and Autobiography

The HSE only gets the TDV6, but since the car weighs 420kg less, that get 0 ~ 100kph in 7.9 sec!! The rear eLocker is only available on TDV8 and S/C, but only if you don't spec Park-Assist (presumably if you can push the car enough to need an eLocker, you can park the thing!). There's a host of other new features, design changes etc - it's one good-looking car.

Of more interest to the forum, I also saw a demo of the new off-road features. The LR engineers are saying this is the most capable off-roader LR has ever built, but they're sulking because they doubt anyone will ever use it ($200,000+ for the Vogue!) Most of the following will appear on the 2014 Sport as well, but no one could tell me if the 2015 Disco will get any of it. Moderators note, there may therefore be an argument for moving the RRS section into the Range Rover section, once these models are released.

So offroad:

Two off-road heights: + 40mm and +75mm (cf +50mm for current models)
+40 mode doesn't drop until 80kph
Extended mode still available (but not sure if super-extended still exists)
300mm wheel travel
TR2 comprises auto-detection of terrain - selects modes itself, but can be over-ridden with the rotary select
19, 20, 21 and 22" rims only
My Compomotive 18" rims WONT fit :(

Don't know yet what tyre choices are going to be available, but I'll be measuring one up in November. Then just need to hock the kids (oops, already done that .... ) and place an order. Or wait for the Sport? What to do .....................

Cheers,

Gordon

Can't wait to see it at the Sydney Motor show in October.

I would be happy with a base model TDV6 HSE. Plenty fast enough, lightest, most economical, and has all the fruit one could need. Now where can I find a spare $168,900 :(

Is electric steering only fitted with Park-Assist? If so then perhaps the 2 are mutually exclusive due to power consumption as I've heard that electric steering on the petrol Territory requires the vehicle to be fitted with a very high output alternator (200A IIRC).

With that auto stop/start, wonder if it can be overridden ,
I can think of heaps of times off road ,that if I stopped that I would want to keep motor going,

As far as I know Ken, all auto stop/start vehicles can be overridden .
Wife's beamer has a button beside the stop/start button that lights up when it is pressed.
Must admit it is a pain in arse sometimes, especially for my daughter who is on her learners .

Received this link from LR Australia. Isn't it a Vogue rather than a Sport?

Yes, it is a "Vogue" although the naming will change, so better to call it the "full size" RR. The point I was making was that a lot of the same technology will filter down to the 2014 Sport.

Not positive Graeme, but I think the electric steering (std on the Evoque) will be std on all Australian releases of the full-size RR.

Actually they do refer to it as a Vogue at one point in the LR Link.

In Australia there will be 4 trim levels: HSE, Vogue, VogueSE and Autobiography. So it might be a little confusing to refer to the whole lineup as the "Vogue"

THE ALL-NEW RANGE ROVER (http://allnewrangerover.landrover.com/au/en)

I wish I were rich......

Oh well, at least I don't have to agonise over the choice of which one to buy.

Not positive Graeme, but I think the electric steering (std on the Evoque) will be std on all Australian releases of the full-size RR.I didn't get the impression that electric steering was optional with the wording about relieving the engine of the load of the hydraulic pump. I recall arguments from the time when power steering was generally being introduced as placing an extra load on the engine.

I've got a Merc with the same technology....button on the dash. It's on when my wife drives....I hate it, so it's off when I drive. :)

Electric steering is going to be standard pretty much on all cars because modern safety and driving aids need to be able to turn the steering wheel - notably park assist, but also crosswind control and similar.

Enjoy driving while you can, because soon you'll just be a passenger!

Total wheel flex is 260mm at front, 310mm at rear. Don't know how that compares with current models.

It also has active dampers but not clear if that's Magneride as per Evoque.

Will be a GREAT car, looks fantastic!

Retry the link:

This should work

Hi Gordon, any news on whether the RRS will get the 4.4 TDV8?

And that it did - I used to have an old Audi that idled badly when it was cold, and the power steering was enough to stall it! :D

I thought electric power steering was meant to be more fuel efficient, amongst other things...

I was in Singapore recently and stepped onto a train....it took me a sec to register why I had such a good view of the tracks in front.....

NO DRIVER....LOL!!!! All fully automated. :)
