Windscreens quick reply please.

Just had my D2 2004 windscreen replaced. Insurance job had to use their installer.Late Friday afternoon neither of the fitters could replace the plastic side trims.Boss asked if I could bring car in on Tuesday and he would ask around how to fit trims.
Getting home late, I checked the screen in the morning and the screen was cracked.Unable to contact agent on his phone I contacted the insurance etc.
Whilst watching them trying to fit the trims I mentioned that the manual states the rubber seal across the top of the screen should be replaced. He said it wasn't because it was expensive???? The old one was was replaced with gunk under it to stick it to the body.It left lumps under the seal and was uneven. All this to await until Tuesday.
Can any one who has had a screen replaced let me know whether the seal was replaced at their chosen repairer.

Windscreens O'Brien did mine. Used a genuine LR/Pilkington screen. YOUI insurance claim. I quized them about the top finisher .... yes, they stated it would be replaced with the new screen, and it was.

Sounds like your job was a bit of a dodgy :(

I would think that if a screen was replaced it would be wise to replace all the seals and finishers that could possibly be compromised during removal.
That would include the top sides and bottom.
If it were me I would be insisting they did the job right no matter the expense, the insurance is paying after all.

Obriens did mine a few months back
All new seals and trims. Although they did wreck the intake plenum and then claim it wasn't their fault.

It is near impossible to remove an original top finisher without damaging it. A new one needs to be fitted. The side finishers are difficult to remove without breaking one or more of the plastic tabs that go into the hidden metal clips that hold them on - but it can be done if you are very careful. The three plastic "studs" that also hold them on along the door edge need to be replaced.

All should be part of the windscreen replacement under Insurance.

my father just had his done at obriens and had big issues, broke the side trim on one side then couldn't match the gloss to flat trim broke the screen refitting these trims after a week delay, replaced the trims and screen at the 3rd attempt and they foud the new one requires persuading with a rubber mallet at the top to fit. done on insurance and store swears it is the last disco allowed through the doors as he will only get paid for the screen not trims or breakages
