Just picked up a book by Bill King, founder of AAT Kings , called King of the Outback. When he started his travel business, he had 2 Land Rovers, that went all over the outback. I've only flipped thru the book, one passage caught my eye, King came across an old flat sided LR ute, and a man called Alby Shultz. Long story short, Alby blew a top radiator hose, Fixed it by skinning the tail of a kangaroo to make a sleeve to patch it up, bound with insulation tape. It worked!. Like to see a Toyota do that.Alby did not have enough water to top up the radiator properly, so King gave him some, they jump started the Landy, the hose billowed out a bit, but held. Alby had a domestic fridge he put kangaroo meat in for his tucker, No power, he said it was below zero at night, he just left the door open, and closed it in the morning. King swears it's all true, and I'm not going to doubt him, looking forward to the read, Bob

Good read. As a former employee of one of the later incarnations of the business it brought back a few memories of 'out there'.

I remember his grey Unimogs passing through our town on the Calder when I was a kid!
Was it "Bill Kings Australian Safari" or something similar?
Then one of the local guys happen to buy one of his retired mogs in maybe the late 80's.

Cheers, Mick.

Well look at the central Aussie overnight temps lately...that would work.
The old drovers would lay their meat out on tree limbs overnight to cool it the pack it in their saddle bags for the day. simple bush common sense!

Cheers, Mick.

The Toyota probably wouldn't have blown the hose in the first place

:D

If it's going to work on one car's hose, it'd work on another ;)

A good book to read, wish it was longer.Would of loved to of done one of those tours in those days.Amazing what they did in those days to get home, like sitting in the desert for 8 days waiting for a new transmisson or making a 6 pot Bedford motor into a 5 pot because a piston broke. The good old days no OHS etc
Cheers Will

Robert, you won't want to put it down. A great story about a self made man, facing life with a sense of humour, battling thru all setbacks, Bob
