Hey guys , just wondering what most of you run exhaust wise running a v8 ?
Looking at making a new 1 , probably from headers back .
How many mufflers do most of you run ect ?
I'm thinking straight through with 1 medium size muffler would do the job ?
Cheers

Hi, all I have on my 96 D1 is a straight through lukey, and 2.5" pipe after it, quiet on the highway at 110. Cackles beautifully from 2500-3500 rpm then just a lovely howel from
3500- to infinity and beyond....Gary

Although my D1 now has a 4.6 I'm running a set of Pacemaker extractors to a single 2.5" pipe with a single straight through Lukey. Sounds good and you notice the power difference to the original set up. Cheers

G'day. I've got a Ford BA XR6-Turbo Ute (same as F6 Ute) centre muffler (dual in & out - 2-1/4") running into twin 2" pipes over the axle and a couple of hot-dogs in the rear wing and BA XR8/Pursuit Ute perforated tips. Chopped the take-down pipes where the two become one (each side) and ran 2-1/4" pipes to the centre muffler (with 1-1/2" balance pipe). The BA XR6T muffler is about the biggest you can fit in the space, stainless steel, straight-through, and cheap as chips as just about every exhaust shop will have some they pulled out of a customer car. Big straight-through mufflers give the best flow vs sound attenuation. The front pipes I have are a bit big for a baby 3.9 but a good size for something closer to 5.0ltrs. Sounds great and is very quiet on the open road, with a meaty growl when giving it some off-road without being anti-social driving through camping grounds, etc.
Fitting Hedman headers soon when the new (long-term project) stroker engine goes in :D C'mon Christmas...
Good luck with it :)
P.S. I'd recommend that you consider fitting bolted flanges in key locations. Makes working under there so much easier when you can just unbolt a section of exhaust.

I've got 'a similar setup to what most others have mentioned in my 97, but with the auto I find it tends to drone a bit. You get uses to it though.

Hi guys
Are any of you running a cat? Its illegal not to have a cat in Oz but because the D1's came out factory without one is it OK not to run one when you install a new exhaust, just dont want any unwanted attension
Cheers

No cats allowed, :-). Not there as per factory as you said, so no legal reason to have one..
And even with a straight through and a lukey, you can still drive it not to get noticed... But isn't that why we have a v8 ..luv the sound...Gary
