Shows that the Deafener as we know it is not long for this world. Clearing out as much as they can and adding as much fruit as they can get away with.
All of those will be like the SVX and attract "luxury" tax :(

the day that landrover put a decent motor in a defender is the day my backside dont face the ground!!!! :D however if they ever do put a decent sized diesel motor in a defender i will personally call landrover and tell them how impressed i am with there decision then i will end it with "it only took 60 years"....

I'll take the Heritage, with the Rock Sliders and roof rack (minus the pod) from the Sport, and the wheels from the Retro, but in Anthracite Grey.
Oh, and I'll have the TDV6 from the top one.

x 2 ON THAT MATE!
How about just an OPTION? "You can have ANY engine as long as it's the 2.2......." WTF? You can get the RR and Disco with engine options? You can get engine options from EVERY OTHER manufacturer?
All that garbage about emissions tax and target market? Yes, they're targeting the Defender right OUT of the market. Small wonder they only sell 500 world wide

Actually it's LITE
Its UTE which is shorthand over here (in UK) for 'Utility' which means less seats and windows, other than that its the same - I've got a standard 110 utility xs and its a pretty good wagon, more secure in the back for the dog. Not like the utes you guys have with the open 'pickup' back. I'll be seeing a few of them when I come over for a trip in October, looking forward to that.
There are several of those 'jazz em up' companies here (some just add a badge and not much else) The Nene ones are a bit more worked on, lowered for 'fast' road work, 'raised' , some just prettied up - whatever you fancy really.
There is at least one 'proper' tuner over here who has put a 3.2 puma engine into a 90 with good results by the sounds of it, more to follow I'd say - could be a good upgrade when the first engine is worn out.

Td5 and 300tdi I have no problem with but compared to other engines they are a **** fart option... Yes can be made to go good but compared to motors from cummins,Isuzu, detroit etc etc there's no comparison

A "Puma" will happily sit on the speed limit all day, whilst at it GVM,and still have enough in reserve to overtake slower vehicles.
Next people will be complaining that the radio won't play doof doof loud enough:mad:

no point in a valve amp if playing CDs sorry

With the tow rating and quality of chassis, IMO, to be able to do the work properly and SAFETLY, AND have a decent rebuild life (min 600,000km) You need some power and some DISPLACEMNT
not something stupid like a 6bt cummins...but something in say 3.2-3.5 and 500nm. Of coarse this means a new gearbox and axles...alxes should be the same centers front and rear, fab'd housings. 30 spline MIN, 80 series size cvs...wider bearing spacing
etc
etc
etc
etc

The best thing with the Defender is the ease of modification. Why not just fit the engine, gearbox, axles etc of your choice?
With this themed thread popping up every few weeks one wonders if the amount of energy that is put into moaning about the latest from LR was put into actually building something that suits an individuals purpose we all might have something more interesting to read. (This is not directed at you Uninformed, but to the greater AULRO community).

There is nothing stupid about a 6bt cummins, perhaps a little overkill for our application. It's little brother the 4bt(3.9lt) would be a perfect swap in a defender, problem is they are a little thin on the ground here in Australia. I only mentioned the 6bt because I have one sitting in the shed for my 61 f100 unibody project. Also 6bt have been successfully fitted to a number of defenders, one of which was a 90!!!

1100lbs, I think that converts to anout 500 kg. To give you an idea I believe a 351 Cleveland ( the other motor I have for my f100) is about 350kg

IIRC the 4BT and 4BD1T are around the 400-425kg mark, and a Tdi roughly 250-270kg ??
Dougal has posted up weights of the 4BD1T and 4BT somewhere, hell I think I may have posted weights comparing the Tdi to the 4BD1.

hahaha, good luck with that. Obviously you dont subscribe to Colin Chapman's theory of "adding lightness"

The old f truck has already had a substantial brake upgrade uninformed. I got the 6bt real cheap with an adapter to ford bell housing, flywheel and engine mounts to suit Cleveland base plates. I have not 100% made my mind up yet as to what engine to run. Leaning towards the cummins for fuel economy, geared right they should easily get 10l/ 100km.
Sorry to everyone else I realize this is o/t

whoops, I think ive entered the F Truck forum.....or is it related because at some point Ford owned LR
The 4bt is a great engine, but IMO its weight is an issue for LR...like I said IMO.
a 6bt, no bloody way! yes it can be done, yes it has been done, just like GMC V8 diesels etc, doesnt make it a great idea

so a chipped td5 then?
theres a significant number of tdis and a couple of td5's that are pushing those Ks so the engines sound.

Chipping will only slightly mask the smaller cubes. New engines are better, but I bet anyone would prefer to drive the new 3.2 over the 2.2
