I am slowly breathing life back into an 80" bought off ebay and only have a bill of sale in terms of paperwork. I'm sure that it has been asked before, but would appreciate guidance on the steps and paperwork required to get this old girl back onto the road using chassis / engine numbers and the receipt. Easier to ask those that have gone before than to stumble through the process.....

Obviously I need to get her ready for RWC as a major milestone, but are there any documents that I should be starting to pull together whilst I wait for that day to dawn.....?

As I plan to keep her original in terms of equipment, do I need any proof that the model was not fitted with indicators or seatbelts at time of first registration in order that the RWC inspector doesn't have a fit?

Shouldn't be a problem with seat belts/indicators - all you need is proof of age, which the chassis number should provide. About the only fitting that is a retrospective requirement is rear reflectors. Expect them to want to see the chassis number stamped into the chassis. Information and/or documents on its most recent registration would help, but should not be necessary.

Last one I registered in QLD was about 10 years ago, however the process was simple.
You turn up at the nearest QT office with the vehicle, a safety certificate, your purchase receipt.

They will accept the age you give them if it is reasonable (maybe bring a printout from on of the LR chassis number registers).

We once registered a bitsa, I just put down May 1968 on the forms. The QT officer said "you think it is a 1968 model do you?" I said yes - based on chassis number. They scrubbed out the month and put 1968 on the rego forms. Didn't question me and didn't ask for any proof of year.

I got my 80in over the pits earlier this year, rocked up to the inspection, gave them engine number, chassis number and a weight bridge ticket, all states will be different but my inspector said what ever it was or wasn't fitted with as standard is what they assess,I.e. Didn't need indicators or seat belts to pass the inspection..good luck!

John - thanks. Is there an easy reference point for the chassis number vs age (other than Diane's depth of knowledge of course)? As it still has the original 2" round rear reflectors fitted - would these need to be changed for something bigger? Cheers drew

Not that it should make a difference to the expected quality, condition and safety of the restored vehicle..... but I hear tell that a RWC is not required for QLD rego if the vehicle is located in a 'remote location', ie access to an inspection centre is difficult. Anyone have any experience with that? Cheers

Can anyone clarify the implications of these different regos?

How old does a vehicle have to be to qualify for vintage status?

You should have no problems. Keep the vehicle stock standard.

That means no seatbelts, No indicators.

If you want these you can add them later after it's registered.

If you have no proof of purchase it makes it a little harder or no last registration papers. To make easy you need an invoice that has value eg. $500 bucks, Chassis Number/VIN, Engine Number. Your name and address.

I have registered a vehicle before that was built from parts with a $0 value they really frowned on it as they did not collect any stamp duty.

Take the vehicle for it's inspection and get the Safety Cert. Then take the Vehicle, Safety Cert and Invoice to your local transport and main roads office or police station(I think they can still process them at police stations in regional areas used to be able to 15 years ago)
