Tricks fir slave shaft into slave master

Thanx guys you all help me out in my time of need!!! So this I'm having trouble with my clutch! Just fitted rebuilt 300tdi fitted up perfectly and started first time! Reverse out if the drive way and ping out pops the clutch master rod now I can't get it back in. I can sit it in the hole on the lever but can't get the clip in! Can locate rod without clip but can't get rid in cylinder. Who has a trick to get all the to work? Please tell me your dirty little secrets to get this done
