110 Relays in battery Box

What are the relays in teh battery box for? I haev approx 6 relays mounted to the inner front of the battery box. I removed my aircon unit and it seemed that most of the relays were attached to these wires.

Anything else non aircon related that has relays there?

Thanks GyroLandy. When I bought my 130 the aircon all came in a big cardboard box. I've been trying to figure out where the control unit goes.

Never thought of the battery box, but yep the two mounting holes line up perfectly with holes on the transmission side of the battery box. :D:D

Still haven't decided if the aircons. worth re-installing yet.

No problem, In my opinion the Landy aircon's blowers are too weak and coupled with the heat transfer in the gerabox & seatbox area it will never be effective.

I have ripped teh interior out and insulated and soundproofed the whole cab so that will hopefully help but I'm looking at fitting an unit under the rear seats which should be more effective.

If you are fitting the Landy one, try and find a location for the relays in the engine bay seeing as space in the bettery box is ticght escpecially if you are fitting dual batts.

I hear this a lot, but the 96 Defender I had a few years ago spent 2 weeks in the Flinders Ranges in summer at 40-45 deg. and kept the interior at 20 deg.
Bog standard aircon.

On mine the air was cold enough but couldn't get around the interior quick enough

Mine moved plenty of air on high fan, maybe a check for blockages/leaks in the a/c fan circuit would be worthwhile before spending money fitting aftermarket units.

I know the Oz Defender aircon can certainly work well.

The a/c works well enough in a crew cab, (when working properly) but mine had dropped refrigerant, I got jack of the space the underdash unit takes up and the lack of airflow to the radiator by the condenser (fin pitch is too tight) etc, etc. so I've removed the whole bloody lot and one day might design and build another system, but I think the a/c compressor may become converted to an air compressor in the meantime :angel:

My thoughts as well.

My 130 single cab has two seats and a centre console. I'm considering 'butchering' the original under dash unit and mounting the guts of it behind the centre console, perhaps raising the console and feeding cool air underneath to the front or up the back to rear window height. Anyone gone down this track that you know of ?

I've thought of doing that, and someone mounted a complete Red Dot evap. assembly behind the console, discharging upwards and it supposedly worked really well.

Can't remember if it was detailed on here or Outerlimits ?

We need to find a better condenser.

I've done before/after temp readings on the same hill, a/c not working and the engine temp is higher with the condenser fitted.

You'll get away with it if the engine is stock, wind the fuel up and you start to have 'issues'.

as you said Rick, the condensor is an "off the shelf" item....when mine died I had a thicker one intsalled...same exact height and length, just wnet form 16mm to 20mm IIRC....but of coarse this doesnt help the rad and intercooler...

my AC soon to be removed also.....
