Hey All,

is there a clever mod to move the handbrake lever to a less anoying position?

After 20+ years of LR I'm finally sick of the stupid lever pressing into my leg.

Cheers,

Adam

Derp!

20 seconds on google turned up this:

www.REEDX.net (http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/handbrake/index.htm)

Other suggestions welcome, but this would seem to fit the bill.

Cheers,

Adam

Yes, I have an ex 1997 disco 1 park brake lever mounted on the left next to my seat, did away with the centre box, will make another with a few mods anyhow.

Did you need to lose the cubby box to fit the disco brake, or was that just for preference?

Hi Adam,

My County cubby box is I think wider than the Defender one, But yes it had to go as I also moved the seats 50mm closer together to distance myself from belting my elbow on the door....:(

I reckon looking at those pics in the link you posted that it would fit fine if you didn't choose to move the seats inboard.

Ah, I see. I was just looking at the D2 part - it should fit the same and might be easier to get hold of than the rangie one.

Looks like I have a job for next week!

FWIW - I like it where it is as if I'm on a long run, I sometimes use it as a foot rest...

Yep.

I looked at moving mine years ago, but with my long pins the handbrake lever is good support, stopping my leg flopping over too much on a trip.

If I let my legs open too far I end up with left knee pain, which I get everytime we take the Patrol instead.

I used to do that too, but I had a plate put in my left leg a couple of years ago and now the lever is impinging on me getting into a comfortable position on long drives.

I was going to post a new thread BUT found this one so might as well kick on with it to avoid duplication, so...

I have a Range Rover handbrake lever (probably the same as the D1 I suspect) and want to place it between seat and cubby box in a "conventional" position.

What's actually required to do this as far as mounting and the cable run is concerned?
Is any reinforcing needed to where the lever will be mounted?
Simply reroute the existing brake cable?

Then what to do with the hole left where the old lever was? Just make up a blanking plate?

Cheers

I did similar with a disco handle into my series. However I moved the whole show backward a little more. Also made a reinforcing plate to clamp under the seatbox so it was all nice and strong. Cubby box is mounted slightly to the passenger side to allow plenty of room.

I did it because I converted from standard series gearbox to a R380/lt230 and needed a different brake setup, disco handles were easier to get.

It does give heaps of leg room, but at times I miss it because I brace my leg against the defender handbrake when offroad.
