This is an interesting path Canon have taken. I would have thought a 7D MKII with full frame would have been the go.

I agree, that is why I am considering a 5d MarkII yet I am not entirely convinced of the performance.

So has anybody managed to get there hands on a 6D yet?

I was looking to upgrade from my 500D to a 5D MII, then Canon released the MIII. I thought that was the camera for me, now with the 6D being released I'm thinking that it will probably suit me fine I would be $500 better off.

So is the focus system on the 5D worth the extra money??? That is all that I can really make out as being an attraction for the 5D MIII over the 6D.

The things that I don't like about my current 500D:

Slow shutter response time
No auto focus in video mode
Auto focus performance
Low light performance

Having said that I will be keeping the 500D as a second camera so that I can minimise the number of lens changes when I'm in a dusty environment...

What are your thoughts?

Cheers
Ron

Well I have waited a long time on this and yesterday decided upon the 5D. You can't rush these decisions now can you.

JB Hi Fi had a discount on and up to the last minute I was still considering the 6D and also the 7D Mark II. Early days, but I'm happy with the decision so far.

Got so much to learn now.

What did you pay for the 5D?

It was $2970 plus they did a good deal on a 16G Compact Flash card. I understand that they also include an extra year of warranty support as well.

We went from a 60D to a 5D III.

Had the 5D for probably 18 months now,it is fantastic.

The first 6 months was a big learning curve, but once you get it sorted, you realise how good it is.:)
