Strip the MAG down and soak in soda water, it should dissolve any corrosion holding it in.

unscrew the reflector section and remove,
prise out the rubber switch cap and insert allen key to undo grub screw through centre of switch.
Globe and switch body should now be removable through front of torch,
insert drift and belt the living stuff out of the battery to get it out.
Thats from memory
but,
full instructions should be on the maglite site and will probably give more detail and allen key size.

Cool was wondering how how to remove the switch.....
I starting to wonder if I should have stayed home instead of touring around with the kids

Depending on your torches serial number...
THIS (http://www.maglite.com/pdf/CustServ/CD_switch_repair_8_0410222004702582.pdf) could be it
5/64 is the allen key size.

I had exactly same problem with mine and stuffed it trying to get the battery out, went to the tip.
but the bicarb soda solution is one thing i did not try.
I'm actually glad it happened because I bought a new Olight SR50 LED torch which is so much better than the maglite its not funny.

Yep mine is a D
I have loosen the grub screw and have tried a socket and screw driver, the switch mech is not moving. That battery is stuck good.
I have a long wood drill at home which might release some pressure in the battery.
Oh well

sorry mate, the bit I missed was in step 7.
switch comes out the tail cap end:(
I thought you could get it out the front and then get at the battery from both sides. Sounds like job for home ... impressed you had the allen key though;)

Just fixed the same thing on a 3d
Has a circlip in through the front
I used a small screwdriver to start one end of the clip
Then continue prising and poking
I used a screwdriver handle first up the tail end and banged
It down on the benchtop
Remember the switch has a spring on it. Watch out!!
Everything came out all over the bench
Make sure you loosen the switch first
Do it soon before the acid eats your switch
Have a look at the malkoff drop ins ;)

I had this in a 2xAA Maglite which ended up in the bin. Wrecked a few tools trying to get the battery out though to add to the cost.
Now I take the batteries out of my remaining Maglites if not using them for a while or periodically check them if they are staying in the torch.

I have a 2AA in the same boat. The end cap is corroded shut. Even tried clamping it in a vice and using vice grips to open - no dice.

Remember damage caused by brand name batteries leaking will be warranted
Pretty sure Duracell, energizer etc
As long as the batts are still in date they have been known to replace with new maglites!!
