Hi Everyone,

I don't want to put this thread under events as it is very specific Series 1. So hopefully the moderator agrees to leave it here.

First, some news. The Land Rover Series Once Club in the UK has just made me Area Representative for Victoria, Australia.

Help! I'm reasonably familiar with the LRSOC but I am sure that there are many others who have more knowledge than I do. But I will give it a go. Whatever I don't know I guess I will find out. I'm looking forward to the learning curve.

As one of the first things I would like to do is to get the Series 1s in Victoria a bit more involved and active as a group. Member or not.

For this reason I would like to ask any Series 1 owner to show their interest to join the Motorclassica Melbourne. I still need to contact the organisation but I think they would welcome us in one way or another.

Maybe your car could be on display or as a group we join the tour. Let me know if you are interested in joining in. No need to be a LRSOC member, just bringing your Series 1 is enough. If you are already going to display your Series 1 at the event I would love to know. And for those who want to auction of any (other type of) classic car, that's possible there as well. Have a look at the info on www.motorclassica.com.au (http://www.motorclassica.com.au). Below the activities and dates from their website.

This is a call to arms. Send me a message (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/sendmessage.php'do=mailmember&u=22123) and we go from there.

Thanks,

Kris

Kris,

I don't know anything about Motorclassica but the entry fees tell me it's not the sort of event I'd normally attend (but I'd probably enjoy it).

I took my Series I on the RACV Rally a couple of years ago. It was the only Land Rover there and it was out of place amongst all the Veteran & Vintage fully restored vehicles. Most people arrived at Cape Schank Country Club and rushed off to their pre-booked lunches and weren't around to talk to the public. It was good fun and a couple of the commercial vehicle owners were down-to-earth and spent time chatting.

The best event I've taken part in is the Historic Commercial Vehicle Club event at Sandown Racecourse a couple of years ago. Several Land Rovers were there, everyone was down-to-earth and talked to the public and apart from the rain it was a fantastic day.
You don't need to be a member to take part but I did contact the organiser and let them know I was coming.

I'd suggest that the HCVC event might be more suited to early Land Rovers.

Thanks Colin,

Great feedback on events of interest for a Series 1. I can imagine that Series 1s may look quite rough in comparison to the sleek classic sports cars. However, some of us put many hours in making a Series 1 sparkle. Even if that wasn't the case, aren't we worth while classics too? I'm sure a certain segment of the public would love to see us at any event like these.

Let's do them all. Who can come?

Just got word from Motor Classica... unfortunately they have no more space and are fully booked out. But they will keep my contact details for next year.

(We could always gate-crash and 4x4 through the park!? :D JUST KIDDING)

So what about us Series 1s joining up for other and next events. Who's interested (if they had the time)?

Kris

I'll be booking in for the HCVC event at Sandown.

Maybe approach them and see if you can get an area set aside for pre-booked Land Rovers. Last time it was a bit disorganised and you just parked where you liked.

Hi

For those interested.

There is a large vintage car / truck display , swap meet happening at Lardner Park , Warragul. Sunday Oct. 7 . It's open to anything on wheels, tractors and so on. They are having a tractor pull .

Lardner Park is a large site where various themed expos happen during the year, eg farming, trucks and so on. It used to host the Old Wares expo , run by the vintage vehicle club in Warragul . One year, a couple of 80" turned up .

7th October 2012 (over the entire weekend)

The Last of the Chrome Bumpers Car Show & Swap Meet. Vintage Caravans Welcome.

LARDNER PARK, VIC

The venue for the 8th “The Last of the Chrome Bumpers” will be Lardner Park, Lardner, Victoria. Previously held at Cora Lynn. Lardner Park is located one hours drive east of Melbourne and only twenty minutes from Pakenham, making it very accessible using the freeway.

Lardner Park has undercover areas for our trade alley patrons, grassed areas for picnickers, plenty of display areas for all vehicles to be located on one site.

On display we will have the Vintage Caravans, Hot Rods and Custom cars, Classic and Vintage cars, Classic Trucks, plus some chrome Super Trucks. Vintage Traction engines and farm machinery will not be lacking and some tractor pull display vehicles will be there as well.

This year in one of the pavilions we will have a display of vehicles celebrating motoring throughout the years.

The swap meet patrons will have a special area allocated to them as this has been growing bigger and better each year.

Entertainment for the children and the picnic atmosphere will make for a great family day

Mike,

So you have to pay the same as the general public to get in even if you have a car on display ?

Hi Colin

I am not sure about that .

But I do agree that its not a good way to go, the organisers should have free entry for any display vehicle. The club I was in for many years, refused to attend any event where they charged us for entry . After all, our vehicles are bringing in the paying punters , we are the attraction, to ask us to pay for entry is just outright greed MIKE
