Over the past few weeks the gas charged strut which hold the upper part of the tailgate aloft apprears to have lost part of their charge and struggle to hold the tailgate up.
Is there an easy way to re-charge them or would be it simpler to simply install new struts ?
I did a forum search but came up empty handed so not sure if this is something experienced by others.

Some companies can recharge them, probably better if you are selling the vehicle bit if keeping it best off fitting new ones, try Bursons too they stock gas struts. It is s 5 sec changeover to fit.

Not for a Disco but some years ago I was quoted much more to re-gas than buy new.

Graeme/Sniergy,
I had a feel, in our throw away society that new would be cheaper than repair !
Sniergy, do you know if there is a part no. to quote for Bursons ?
And can you briefly explain the 5 sec fit ?
Thanks

several strut repair francises in sydney.
most are mobile.former employer was strut regas.
if you knew what the spec was for the struts then you go to companies like Ovesco - Hardware,Gas Stays,Drawer Slides,Rubber & Seal Strip,Water Tanks & Tool Boxes,Huck Fasteners & Tooling,Recoil,Threaded Inserts (http://www.ovesco.com.au/)
i did a google.
found an american listing for LAND ROVER--range rover MKII
STABILUS - Ref: 3937AM
LAND ROVER : ALR1050
300 newton-400mm ball to ball.
generic plastic ends.
154.5 stroke.
no longer available-converts to a volve number that is not stocked.
but a 400 X 300 X 8 is about as common as you can get,and new would be cheep as chips.

I got a couple of oddball ones from the back window of my tractor regassed last week. $30.00 each with a 12 month warranty and If they leak they will discount the replacement unit by the cost of the regas. Replacements were about $40.00 ea plus shipping
