View Full Version : Rear-door windows on the dual-cab defenders dropping?

Have any of you noticed the rear door windows going down by themselves?

I'm not quite sure if I bump the window winders while getting the toddlers in or out and they are to small to reach the winders even with their feet.
Every now and then driving on my own I would start to notice wind noise from the back to find the windows aren't fully closed.
(It's a 2012 Landy and it's not like i drive corrugated roads all the time...)

Happens on my 2008 110 Wagon too! Every two weeks or so I find I can hear the one behind my seat but thee passenger side I need to check as well from time to time.

If I'm off road for any length of time, it happens much more quickly.

I noticed that someone's solution was to ensure the window handle was at BDC with the windows in the up position.....but this is already the case with mine and still they work themselves down a touch.

Can't say I'm really bothered by it unless it's going to become a security issue.

I had a similar issue with my recently built '95 130 dual cab. I moved the winder handle to about 5 o'clock on the right and 8 o'clock on the left and it seems to have cured the problem. Apparently this was a common problem on Holdens in the 60's and 70's due to the weight of the steel handles. They have to be positioned so that gravity on the handle is try to "wind the window up".

Yep, my 2007 110 does the same even after re-positioning the winder to the 5 oclock position

my 2000 130 defender does it too as does a friends 06 110 wagon.

moving the winders causes it to happen slower but it still happens.

good to see the tradition carried on to the new pumas :D

I wonder if the solid steel HQ Holden handles have the same spline.......

.... or perhaps we could hang one of those offensive chrome ball bags that Hilux-jocks sport on their tow bars on the LR handle.

Cheers guys.
I didn't think i was alone there, and it seems the dealer wouldn't really be able to do anything about it either... I'll change the handle position as suggested and see how it goes.

said to my wife 'but none of the others done it in the past, so why does it happen with my very first brand new one I own?!'
..."because none of your other landrovers had 4 doors!"

Hahaha, yes I'm an idiot, so then doesn't it happen to the front windows? Or do we not notice it because they are used?
Siliconed shut, the kids can cut it loose on their 13th birthday
