View Full Version : Wiper Blade Cost!!!

Solitaire Auto in Adelaide quoted me (IIRC) $180 to replace the wipers on my D3. THis is obsurd, rude and offensive!!!!!

WHat are other people's experiences with wiper replacement? I can get a pair of blades from the UK for around 40 pounds plus delivery.

I am fed up with being ripped off for car parts in Australia. No wonder people buy off the net so often!

I had the same experience for my D3 and since then found the part number in the FAQ section of this forum. Should be cheaper in the local auto shop.

I agree that the dealer price is over the top.

How do the after-market parts rate???

LR want approx $54.00 for each D4 front wiper!

Bosch make an aftermarket blade which you can get from your loacal auto store that is for all intents and purposes the same as the LR blade and it's just as good. They sell for around the $25.00 mark.

For the rear blade you can use a generic type and cut to length.

It works for me!:D

That means my dealer was going to sting me about 45 minutes labour to replace the blades (1 minute job). Thieves........

Will try after-market.

Land Rover dealers are the not the only stealers. My Audi dealer ripped me off for $158 for the wipers for my TT. They changed them and then charged me:(

My D3 wipers are aftermarket and as far as I am concerned, they are better than my original OEM ones.

I have generic Repco blades of the correct length in my RRS - $12 for the pair.

Unless you have funky type of fitting as used on some later Fords just get onto e-bay and order up a Euro flat blade or two at the correct length. You should not have to pay more than $6 shipped and they are great blades. If you have an odd fitting all is not lost, you can still get the odd type for a few more $$.

I believe D4`s use a 22" standard hook fitting blade, still check that yourself

Costco sell Goodyear blades, $8 each for the RRS. Leagues ahead of the OEM ones and last quite well.

I have 2 spare sets in the garage :whistling:

Why would someone try and buy wiper blades from the dealer ?

I don't think it's really a matter of "trying to buy wiper blades" from a dealer rather a case of putting your car in for a service and returning to find out that they have replaced the old blades with ones that cost a fortune (something you weren't aware of) - in the "old days" your car was serviced and things like wiper blade inserts cost a few dollars ... nowadays you are likely to be charged for "genuine/fully imported" Landrover air for the tyres
most people just aren't aware of the "value adding" that all brands do on their service costs. Once stung you learn and act accordingly - such as buying your filters etc online and saving a small fortune..... :) oh and don't forget to tell the dealer NOT to add that awful smelly crap to the airconditioning system when they "service" it ... took me a week of driving around with open windows to stop the car smelling like a cheap lolly shop - and for me to stop sneezing every time I got in it !!!!!

Replacing wipers blades is part of the official service schedule (Both A and B services) - just like changing oil and filters etc. By accepting that the car is to be serviced you also accept changing wiper blades.

thanks Gary - as I said above "Once stung you learn and act accordingly" - I source my filters (oil - air - pollen) and wiper inserts myself and take them with me when the car goes in for it's service and tell the service advisor to use the pieces supplied - never had any problems this way.
cheers

The blade assy for the BA/BF Falcon fits fine. A side by side comparison, and they are pretty much the same, except for about 15mm shorter in length.

I can understand your frustration, I caught my local dealer doubling the RRP of an air filter. Full of dirty tricks.:vampire:

It is a perverse reality that car dealers seem to think that car buyers are idiots. We want quality for a fair price. I am more than happy to pay a reasonable premium for convenience but rip me off and I become another customer looking to the Internet. Dealers with short term greed will have a short term business based on this global internet market.

My D3 came out of warranty this June. I will no longer be taking it back to the dealer for service and will find somewhere else that is decent. Fair call? There is nothing on these cars that another company cannot service/fix??

Hi, Found this in an earlier post about 3 years ago when I had a D3 (Now D4)
BOSCH BBA550 - Wiper Blade Replacement
I bought a wiper blade set at Auto Barn (not Bosch) and they were great, bit of a hunt in their range, but I found it listed as LR D3 and it was 100% OK.

Supercheap Auto and Auto Barn all carry them...depends on which ones you want, either standard or for squeaks get the silicon.

I bought a set from Repco yesterday, $30 each they were Treco or Trico brand, like has already been said they are 22" or 560mm.

Seem to work ok took all of 60 seconds to fit both.

I tried the Bosch BBA550 for the past year and they were pretty good but I found that the backing frame whacked the A-pillar on the driver's side at full speed and that got pretty annoying in prolonged heavy rain.

I've just replaced them with Repco Hydroblade 560mm and they are very good, silent and the lower profile of the backing frame doesn't contact the A-pillar. $26 each.

As stated by others Bosch make blades for the D3 and D4 but you need two slightly different types for a front windscreen set! BBA550 for the right hand side and BBA530 for the left hand side the only difference being the blade length. I am guessing that would fix the problem of the blades contacting the windscreen side trims. The last set I purchased cost me $32.00 each. Obvously more than you would pay in the city but I guess that is one of the joys of country living.

Put Repco ones on mine. Universal euro blades I seem to recall.

You must be lucky - my supercrap has them at $35 for one.

I get the cheap no name Repco generic blades (rubbers) for $12 a pair and work as good as the expensive stuff. I refuse to pay $35 or more for one wiper blade that rarely lasts 6 months before they get noisy and have to be replaced.
