Rightio,
Am looking at upgrading the chequer plate on my 130, particularly on the wing tops. Reason for this is that I go shooting/camping regularly enough and we use it for sitting or storing heavy items. No different to anybody else really.
I would like to upgrade to either Patriot or Mammouth as the strength of the 3 to 5 ml is what I am chasing.
But, as I have noticed, not all wing tops are the same in actual design. Yes the aerial postion and vents are stock, but the actual shape and screw holes are different in locations.
I've since taken mine off of my defender and they are really weak and bend very easily. But my wing tops have have holes where they have been secured.
If I take these to a laser cutters place, with some chequer plate, can they replicate them?
Otherwise I will have to get the ones I've got soda blasted and powder coated again.
What are your thoughts?

Thanks for that! I've spoken to Juddy and yeah he is doing great deals. The only thing is that the holes which are used to secure the wing top in place will be different to those already tapped into my 130.
I really don't want to go drilling anymore holes as it will just create more head aches later on i feel.

Yes you can have a black set no holes.

Cheers.

I’m assuming when you say 4.2mm, that’s the overall thickness of the plate base thickness of 3mm plus forged rib height of 1.2mm ?

Normally the thickness of floor plate, checker plate or whatever you would like to refer to it as, is measured on the base thickness.

So I’m in the process of making a set using Diamond plate which is ordered in as 3mm, finished size is aprox 4.2mm

The problem with most common Alloy is that it's not recommended for use in higher heat areas, as it anneals at 345°C. I'ts strength is affected by heat in excess of 65°C.

I’m not saying that 3mm (4.2mm) checker plate is not up to the job as a wing top protection , that’s unless you weight more than 150kg . Im just saying that it's not the most ideal .

I'm doing it just for the bling :)

As for strength most if us put no more than a beer, keys, or sunglasses on them anyway. Maybe make lunch on them whilst travelling.
As for black as it gets hot as hell, and as for checker plate it does your elbows and knees in while you are trying to lean in it if you are using it to access the engine bay.
But it looks good.
boring silver plate is what probably should have been marketed in the first place, but not very blingy
