300tdi,

Driving along fine, pulled over and the engine idled for about 3 minutes. Went to drive off and it stalled, tried to start and it would turn over but not fire.
It was running perfect before stopping.
Checked so far;

Sediment trap= a little bit of debris, cleaned it out.
Blew out fuel lines.
Has power to injector pump.
Lift pump, pulled off the oulet and can feel pressure.
Checked the cam moves so not a broken timing belt.

I've heard tiny air leaks can stop it from starting?

Any other suggestions???

(1) Turbo Timer?

(2) loose wire to the back of the solenoid on the fuel pump. There's only one wire, make sure it's in and clean, otherwise the solenoid will cut off fuel supply.

To check the solenoid, tuen ign on and connect the wire, it should click, if it doesn't then the power supply to this wire may be gone, check with a multi meter or test light. otherwise the solenoid might not be working. If unsure, use a 12V +'ve wire direct to see if it clicks and if the car starts.

My guess is a loose wire.

You said you checked the sedimenter but what about the fuel filter.?
Does your lift pump have a removable cap on the top, if it does there is a gauze filter there too.
It does sound like it could be an issue with the fuel cut off solenoid though.

Hi,
Had similar, but mine (puma) wouldn't start first thing in the morning. Had been running fine when I turned it off.
Turn every thing off, get out, lock with the key fob, wait a minute, unlock, get in and start.
Bloody computers!
cheers

It would be great to know when the fuel filter was last changed and that would be my best guess.

Got fuel up to the lift pump, bled the rest of the system and she started! Lift pump has the non removable top.
Maybe she just wanted a rest and a ride home on the trailer!!

how much fuel came out of the sedimentor.
if you cant fill a V can with what gurgles out of the sedimentor it may be blocking.

It was empty! I took her for a good run for about 40 minutes and had no trouble.
It's good that she's running again but I would have preferred a definitive reason why she stopped in the first place.

If it's sucked the sedimentor dry maybe looked for a cracked fuel line between it and the tank pick up.
Have you changed the fuel cap? Maybe the tank isn't venting as it should.

As you say it would be nice to know.
