Gday All
Changed the P gasket 3 weeks ago with a metal one. Noticed this morning after a 2000 km trip, coolant behind the waterpump pulley. Would it be wise to change the P gasket when i replace the pump as the 3 long bolts go through it. Thanks in advance
Mick

SOP would be to change the pump and the "P" gasket at the same time ...

others have reported problems with new or relatively new pumps - perhaps it would be useful to search...

re the "P" gasket - current wisdom about installing seems to be to thoroughly clean both faces where the "P" sits and use a good quality gasket (eg. Loctite 574, 510, 548, 515, 518 Gasketing (http://au.iloctite.com/en/loctite-574-510-548-515-518-gasketing)) on both sides of the "P".

I have got away with it before, there is still one bolt holding pressure. On that note it's not really that much more to slip another P gasket in.

As 87county said use a sealant on the P gasket when re-installing, I would highly recommend not using 515 on anything to do with coolant though. I used it the first time I did my P gasket and it leaked about 25,000km later. I now use Loctite Greymaxx on most jobs
