Hi All,

Just wondering if it would be possible to wire a warn winch control box to a supercheap ridge ryder winch?

From what i can see they both have a similar set up in regard to wiring, the only big difference i can see is that the warn control box is the older style with the 4 solenoids instead of the newer single set up. Apart from that its looks like the ridge ryder has the Armature, field 1 & 2 and ground connection like the warn.

Cheers,
Craig

As long as the motors have the same connections it will be fine.
The Warn box with the 4 solenoids pairs them up to lessen the chance of a contact welding together and cause the motor to stay powered - that's why there are 4 individual solenoids, not just a pair of simple ones, or a single dual contact one.

I made a Warn controller by placing an OEM Warn decal on the Ridge Ryder box, much cheaper than retrofitting the whole box.

There is debate both ways about the one Vs two Vs four solenoids. With a single controller there is greater possibility of the contacts welding however like with four engined Vs two engined aircraft there is twice the chance of an a failure letting you down. (hence why most commercial aircraft are 2 engine, these days and almost only the A380 and 747 being 4 engined)

All hooked up and seems to work well.

Good thing it worked out, it is impossible to find spare parts for these cheaper winches.
