Hi all,
for my 58 swb, I need to replace the oil seal on the clutch withdrawal mechanism. There is some kind of steel cover that covers (protects??) the oil seal - I don't know what it does - but I can't get it off.

I have tried heat & tried the press but no luck so far. Oil seal is now stuffed so it has to come out. Any ideas???

thanks
Steve

thats the seal retaining plate it will be eletrolysysed onto the housing

use a 3 leg puller on the outside and a drift through the middle.

thanks for the info.
I hadn't thought about a puller - will try that & see how I go. I'll have to get one that is a good size - mine might be too big & cumbersome!!

by eletrolysysed do you mean that the steel & alum have grown together?
The steel would have been just pressed on originally? & thats how I have to put it back together?

regards
Steve

yes, galvanic corrosion was the word I was looking for that didnt want to come out.

it should just be a slight interference fit and push on, someone may have used a loctite product on it which will make life merry hell.

hold the legs of the puller in tight with a hose clamp.
