as I've had a couple of inquiries about doing some minor service/tuning work and as my schedule is all to hell...
On Saturday the 27 October I will be putting the dog on the leash, loading up the trailer as a load and flinging open the gates to do basic check and tune on Tdi powered landies. Think Minor service with a tune up and tweak and your on the money.
I Intend to run this as a "learn and do" event and will provide top cover on the following activities
Install EGT gauges (you must supply and will be routing your own cables)
Install boost gauges (you must supply and will be routing your own cables)
rejig boost compensation+wastegage plumbing (you may want a new inlet gasket)
Pump tickling
Filter changes (you must supply your own filters)
Oil drops (you must supply your own oil)
Rocker adjustments (you may want new orings for the crankcase ventilator and rocker cover gaskets.)
This is not a you turn up and pay me to do it event (well the pump tweaking I'll be doing) I'll help out, provide the tooling and the technical knowledge as well as show you how to do the basic service items. You'll be expected to bring all your own consumables and fittables.
Confirmation of your attendance and what you want to do will need to be to me prior to 20/10/12
There will be scope for other minor works, questions and maintenance BUT the primary focus will be on getting the engines running nice.

you only need to bolt in a new map for the ECU, theres no hyper level of mechanicary involved in that.

Wouldn't mind dropping by to perhaps learn by observation....If I'm not back at Mick's - with my engine, trying to get it all back together again!
If I'm coming (and if it's OK!) I'll bring some beer and let you know. :)

no problems, there, so far not even the people that have asked about it have committed to coming so at the very worst it'll be a quietish day while I pull the manifold off of SWMBOS and give it an overtune.

so there'd be time to change a turbo, lift pump, vacuum pump and do a full service including sump gasket :o unless I go 4wding

Im interested, just got to make sure nothing else breaks in the meantime. May have to swap the transfer case before then.
Already have my egt gauge and boost gauge waiting for a spare second lol.
Cheers,
Joe

Thanks for the offer.
I'll try and show up, I've got a couple of issues I need a knowledgeable opinion on.

I'm 99% certain I'll be there.
Hopefully get the timing belt done tomorrow.
Picked up the EGT and boost gauge yesterday. (VDO from MTQ)
Getting the EGR cover plate modded for the EGT probe, won't get it back 'til tuesday.
Still have to find a water pump gasket next week and possibly a EGR Gasket.
2 weeks, plenty of time.....
nearly forgot, inlet/exhaust gasket and the O ring for the crankcase ventilator.

Confirming I will be attending.
Thought there would have been more interest from locals.
Just got a stripped water pump bolt to sort out, should be fixed this weekend.
I'll book in for a pump tickle ,rejig boost hoses and a rocker adjustment.
Cheers,
Tony

At this stage, Im tooled up for 1/4 and 3/8th BSPT fittings, if the adaptors you'll need for the work are other than that I'll need to know early so I can get the appropriate taps or arrange for the appropriate fittings.
At this stage its still on for the 27th and I'll post up more info on saturday/sunday.

Hey Dave,
With the boost gauge (1/8 air pressure line) I've used an M12 to 1/8th bsp adapter from the back of the plenum(?) .
I will need to make this a 3 way connection ?
What size is the original hose ?
I should be able to source fittings next week, unless you have another plan on the plumbing.
cheers,
Tony

My prefered plumbing goes
back of the intake manifold to the wastegate actuator and the boost gauge
the spigot on the turbo to the boost compensator.

Dave - just a pre warning. I have an eccentric ex RFD doc staying with me that weekend. Good news is that he has owned 4 RR V8's, ...named fuel pig 1 through 4... true LR nutjob he is too, so he - and I - shall turn up 'round lunch time, with Pizza and beer, to share the TDI love (and the pizza and beer). :D

I consider myself warned and shall revise my stance on leashing the dog on the quality of the pizza and temperature of the beer.

Yeah, fair call - that's why I didn't give you the bad news! :D

I'll leave sourcing the fittings up to you Dave, if thats OK.
I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
The plumbing should be all standard with the only addition is the 1/8 pressure line for boost gauge.

Nahh I guessed that already, your going to turn up in the ford because (and Im basing this on the time it takes to change a waterpump) you still havent gotten matilda back together. I fear I shall be long in the grave before she runs again.

Ha Ha!!! :D Harsh, harsh. Can't refit an engine that is still with the machinist....but if your latter comment is true, don't despair - I'll pop by the cemetery in the old girl with a bunch of flowers!

Just took the rig for a test run, first time since doing timing belt.
All seems good, although I seem to have 19 psi at the intake manifold already. EGT got to 550 max, unladen, along Johnson road brownsplains/wacol.
Got to get the A/C fixed, it's a bit warm out today.

AC's over rated, Since theres no where near as much interest as I thought there would be I'll probably get time to finish hacking my tdi200 to run its AC as a compressor.
For those that have expressed interest in turning up..
Please PM me if you dont already have the address.
so far I have an offer of bringing Pizza and beer so the hell with it.
so its now an Impromptu BBQ/feed yourself, bring ya kids, (alex will be thrilled to help keep them amused) and get your donk tuned up and set day.
I'll probably start swinging spanners at whenigetup oclock so dont be scared about turning up earlyish.
An extra special invite goes out to a certain Ranga, Alex got a new controller for the PS3 (bring ya camping gear, the kids can sleep on the trampoline/cubby)
For those of you PMing me or that are coming to have gauge holes drilled and fitted Include the specified thread type, I'll need at least 4 days notice (last thing tuesday) to order in the right taps. If you want me to get stuff for you plan to turn up early and I can send you to one of my 3 local suppliers that are open on saturday morning only.
