hey iam a new member. so sorry for this silly question. i wish to buy a new lr discovery 3 and found this...
Used Land Rover, Discovery 3 HSE Series 3 08MY car for sale in Melbourne (http://www.drive.com.au/used-cars/land+rover/discovery+3/melbourne/detail.aspx?id=36544057&lid=36544057&pg=1&pp=0&d=0&from=53)
the only problem is that it has clocked 200k+ and its diesel. i went on, had a look. it has got full lr service history. should i go for it? is the price price too much? how much would the regular servicing costs me? and is there something like a major service due soon? please help as iam a 'new comer'...

Check timing belt was replaced on schedule, See if transmission has oil pan to have the gear box oil changed. If not I would consider the possible $7k gear box replacement and negotiate the price down to allow for a new box if required. See Cavers very usefull post on the gear box http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/125041-disco-3-4-automatic-transmission-faq.html.
Price looks ok/good and the car does not look like it has been in the bush as much as mine so it may have had a quieter life. Raditator flushed or replaced? Is it the orgional battery- if so write that out of the price as it is due for a replacement :D
Tyers look road or AT at most so it likely been a very clean road car only. It is nice looking car. Hope you might like to get it Dirty some times:D:D

Service costs depend where and who you get to do it and how much, where and how hard you drive. Ritta's do mine and I drive some rough stuff slowly very slowly :D. Service time is under six month due to my travel distance and locations. I would guess $1000 to $2000 per year in service and maintance costs. (it may be more but I could not admit that to you or myself)
Mine has just over 250,000km and the diesel engine looks to my inexpert opinion that it will last past 1/2 million or more. It may not be worth $30k as Cameo suggests but you could not buy mine for twice that :D:D:D
