Hi all, I was driving on the freeway today and the EML came on the dash so i pulled over to the side and got the vehicle manual out to check what the warning meant. I left the car running when i checked the manual. I then went to take off to drive to a safe place before ringing LR assist. When i took off there was a distinct lack of power. It felt like it was somewhere between low range and high range but with a max speed of about 50 km/h. I spoke to LR assist and they told me it sounded like the car had gone into "limp mode" and told me to lock and unlock the car 3 times. This solved the problem of "limp mode" and the power went back to normal however the EML stayed on the dash. I drove home (5 k's) under the recommendation of LR assist and called LR to speak to a service manager who told me to leave it overnight and try it in the morning once the engine had cooled down. He said it should solve the problem but if not then bring it in to get looked at. Just a tip for you guys incase you experience "limp mode" :wasntme: and need to make it home. Lock and unlock 3 times... Cheers Paul

I had the exact same thing on Sunday, mine got towed to Southerns Monday morning. Mine was a faulty fuel pump, still waiting for it to come home :(
Oh, but doing the lock, unlock three times didn't elimate the warning light

mmm I believe the car will only come out of limp mode if the problem logged is a minor one.
If its a problem that is likely to cause damage to the car I dont think it does...
Dont qoute me on that though.

Thanks for the replies so far. I was told by LR on the phone that if the problem is serious the EML will be red in colour. Mine is amber and it seems to be driving fine at the moment. I'll get it looked at by LR either way.

Quick update. I popped the bonnet before i posted my initial post at about 6:00pm and left it until 7:20pm to give it a chance to cool down. Started it up and the EML turned off straight away. Took it for a quick spin around the block and so far so good. I'll still get it into the dealers though for a look.

Another update. I decided to take it for a longer drive and jumped back onto the freeway and was in 5th gear at 80km/h and i switched up to 6th and the EML came back on and it went back into "limp mode". I limped home and will have it towed to the dealers tomorrow. It seems there is a problem when i go faster than 80km/h... strange

Stupid question, but lock and unlock is using the remote key right?

Yeah mate, may or may not work. It did for me the first time but not the second.

Guys,
Sounds like what happened to mine, originally was the water pump feed hose rubbed through, so low almost no coolant, to me that's major and the light was not red only amber!
The next issue I had, exactly the same symptoms was the air flow regulator, limp mode on the great norther highway with all the B doubles, is not my idea of fun. That got changed out, 200m down the road after changing the amber light came back on, it was the EGR, apparently flapper valve was sticky. May be the same issue, seems like it.
Oh and by the way my car is a 2012 Puma with just on 20k km on the clock, and bugger all off road work.

Mine sometimes comes on, stays on for a couple od days and goes off of its own accord. No limp mode it just drives normally.

As for the engine MIL light turning red, I reckon thats a crock personally unless anyone can confirm its the case I have never heard of it

I agree Dullbird - the book says that the light will come on as orange - no mention of turning red.
