I have a new weber fitted....

I drove 100km yesterday without much to report, however when returning to town when I backed off or cornered the car lost power and spluttered. Starting today it wouldnt idle or respond to throttle. If I could get it to run at speed it was smoothe and had power.

I have flushed tank, dosed with metho to capture any water and have been using valve saver. Glass fuel filter/ bowl has been accumulating white oily liquid (in bottom). Could this be attributed to valve saver?

SU fuel pump pumps fuel 1 metre when hose removed from carbie. plastic fuel filter between pump and carbie does not fill more than 1/3 in normal running.

It sounds as if the idle jet is blocked? but I am not familiar with these carbies. Is there a drain on the bowl?

Any thoughts? or advice on jets and settings? It starts and runs well normally and smoothly with plenty of torque.

Fuel consuption is higher than I expected.

Hi

I would check the float level to begin with , even if its new, it may not be set correctly . Do you have the float level specs.?

It could be the acc. pump is lazy . If its an old stock carby, the diaphram may be sticky . Look down into the throat and pump the throttle lever, you should see a good squirt of petrol .

And check the colour of your plugs , if they are dark or sooty , it means a rich mixture and the carb needs adjusting ..Mike

Thanks mike I am not aware of the specs, I just fitted it and set the timing.

I would like the specs if you have them. I am not familiar with how to set the float level.

I found a short in the dizzy where a insulating washer was worn. I also tsted the Fuel pump again and it was sucking air around the glass bowl on the sedimenter. I drove 150KM on the weekend without much trouble. Good power and torque but running rough at low revs. Idling roughly.
The timing requires fine adjustment.

On close inspection the new tailpipe is sooty and the fuel economy poorer than expected.

Difficult when there were fuel and ignition problems.
