Needed lots to re-float my OX. Couldn't find a good reference in a Search under PAS, PAS Fluid, Power Assisted Steering oils (my searching may be crook too), and who in Oz could find a Texaco brand.:(

Consulted two reliable sources Canberra Motor Works and my local Power steer specialist. Penrite PAS Fluid is the correct spec. also marked for LRs on bottle. So probably good for Discos and Rangies too. My local price $30 a litre.

For Defenders, Pwr Steer specialist said ATF is OK too; the seals are compatible. However, ATF and PAS must not be mixed!

For those of us who go West of the Divide and Nth of Pt Augusta; a drain, flush, and a refill with ATF may be the go. (Cheaper too :D)

Texaco = Caltex ;)

IME the average ATF isn't as good as the OE PAS fluid, much more groan and noise with the couple I've tried

One exception I used that works at least as well as the Cold Climate 14315 PAS fluid is Castrol Transmax Z.

FWIW a tractor UTTO should work really, really well as a PAS fluid.

Much higher levels of AW and EP additives than any ATF and anti-squawk/groan/shudder additives too, so much less to zero noise at full lock and swinging from lock to lock in hard going.
