Td5 Rear Diff

I have a 2006 Td5 110 that has 110k on the clock. It has developed a slight weep from the pinion seal on the rear diff.

I have had the beast from new so I know it's history and is drivetrain is serviced every 20k.

I was wondering of there were any recommended upgrades or repairs while I have it apart, or what is likely to go next...

Yes - fit a salisbury axle assembly (as fitted to 2002/3 or earlier defenders). Plenty of threads on here if you search.

I think your being a Salisbury elitist :), if all it needs after this time is a seal I think it's fine.

I would fit Ashcroft drive flanges and upgraded axles if the current ones show wear though.

do the axles as well, putting fresh flanges on worn angles will simply chew up whats left on the axles and accelerate the initial wear on the new flanges.

its worse if you run greased bearings.

Yeah, definitely go HD, I replaced mine firstly with LR standards and they only lasted around 25000 kms with minimal off roading before slop in the flanges was noticeable. At $120/ 25000kms, I'm thinking the $700 for HD axles and flanges is going to be better economy.
