Hello everyone im new here,
Wondered if any one has some advice on purchasing an extended warranty for my 2010 sport? Went into my local dealer today and got quoted some serious dollars.
Does anyone have any experience with this? or have bought a good warranty elsewhere ie NOT L.R or there dealer?
Any help would be appreciated...Thanks, the Harbinger

Do a search. It has been discussed many times over.
If you do go ahead with one, the best option is the Allianz one. Others are not worth the paper they are written on. And negotiate price - the RRP on them is often ridiculous. If they genuinely want your money they should negotiate.
And read the policy carefully. Really carefully.

Ask this question in the D3/4/RRS section, I remember someone there saying a couple of months ago they used a broker who could get the Alliance cover for a much better price than offered by LR Dealers.
cheers,
Terry

There were some contact details here on the forum about alternate ways to buy. Be warned not all extended warranties are equal.

Hey Mate,
Is $3400 a like for like policy...in other words does it extend your new car warranty for everything?
If so, I don't think you will get a better deal.
As MOWOG stated, some only cover major components and others cover next to nothing I believe.
Cheers,
Kev.

OK, did some checking for you.
I have it in B&W that the best LR product offered is underwritten by Allianz. It is the same product as Allianz's Assured policy.
For that money, I got Allianz's NEW policy on my D4. I'm not completely into all the T&Cs but am certain there are concerning limitations with the lower level 'assured' product.
Do some digging for your own peace of mind.
I used this contact that was supplied through an AULRO forum member.

If you want LR particularly try Southern Cross LR Toowomba, were $3150
If Allianz Assured try Meaghan Roulston was $2900
I ended up with Platinum Finance good deal on Allianz at $2750, but I think he maxed out to beat Meaghan's offer (she used to work there)
This was priced 1 month ago
Same policy but with LR you get Road side assist, and have to use a LR dealer, Allianz you can use approved indie for repairs
Cheers Ken

I went through Megan, very easy to deal with. I signed up an Allianz 'NEW' warranty on my D4 ~$3400 for two years. It covers everything the original LR warranty covers...

I just took a look over the Alliance policy I bought with my new RRS in 2010. Interesting that the slim policy booklet states the warranty extends the manufacturer's warranty by 3 years or 60,000km, whichever comes first. But the letter that comes with it states it's 3 years or 75,000km. I don't do those sorts of distances anyway, but it'll be interesting if it ever comes down to an argument. I paid $3590 inc GST when I bought the car.

Hi Celtoid,
Meaghan is great,
but just on "everything", when I went thru it, I thought that there is a clause about diagnostic cost, that may not be covered (grey area)
Cheers Ken

Mmmmm........
So it may not be apples for apples then? Which is strange, she is pretty pedantic about the details. Of course, not tested yet....:(

When I went through the exercise at the end of 2010 the LR product had just hit the market.
It is backed by Allianz and branded LR.
The key differences (from memory) in favour of the Allianz branded product to my mind were;
1. Could get a 3yr product so much better $/yr value
2. No restriction on where you can service it whereas LR product required serving at LR dealer (subject to maintaining manufacturer's recommended service intervals)
The wording is that it is an exact replacement of the manufacturer's warranty hence it must be in place before the manufacturer's warranty expires.
