Have the Black SVX. Turns Heads :D. Unfortunately it is BLACK! BLACK all over, and it is moving on to Summer.

Seen here other discussion about White roof. Naaahhh! Would look crap.

However, how about Silver? However, just a silver roof on it's own would not look the goods.

Imagine please and comment - Black SVX, Silver roof with checkerplate alloy guard tops and sill rail only; and perhaps Silver guard flares, and or the 60th flat black plastic (stick on) highlighted with silver pin stripe ?

OR

Silver stripe front to rear along the Hip Line and then following a run out taper into the bonnet curve.

If I was to do something like this its got to "right".

Just do the roof, we had a black xtreme (was the demo that dad drove) and he painted the roof a really silvery grey, I still see it getting around and it looks good!! Defenders were designed to have a different colored roof, all the other stuff will look bad IMHO, it will over complicate it. And DON'T do the flares silver!!!

Have a look at this webpage

WHAT IS A CAR WRAP? - PROvinyl - Sydney's leading Car Wrapping Company. (http://www.provinyl.com.au/what-is-a-car-wrap.html)

You can give the defender a silver roof (et al) and later on return it to normal if you sell it.

I've seen a few sedans and RR sports driving around with this sort of coating, and it's a decent look.

No idea of the price though.

my 110 is dark grey with black bonnet/roof and flares with lots of black checker plate[my personal choice!] i have a roof rack with a full sheet of checker plate in natural alloy colour that reflects the heat and is a handy platform

If it's a heat related thing then throw a full length rack on it and put a flat base on it...thick Perspex, alloy, stainless. I did this on my black puma and it cooled things down a huge amount...and besides 110 wagons look the goods with a full length rack..

That's what I was going to say:D
I think top gear mag did it to one of their demo cars, and it was far cheaper than paint. As langy said it peels off and is made from a thick denim plastic that will protect your paint.

I wouldn't mind the idea of a white roof and black body. Makes me think of Guinness:cool:

On a more serious note I have seen a white material probably like that described above stuck on the roof but not all over it. Just a mat on the flat bits and not the sides if you get what I mean. On a tall vehicle like a Defender you'd never know it was there looking from the ground. The car I saw it on was a Tr**py, only saw it as I was passing some stuff up on to a short rack.

Blacks or any dark colour is awful on an off road vehicle I think. Shows every scratch and bit of dust.
My elder bro scratched his wifes brand new Vogue some years ago and didn't he cop it!:o
I'll stick with white 'cos I'm getting lazy and don't want any washing and polishing as I had enough of that with the plasic Prado. But if you really must the idea of a long rack with a decking is best for keeping the Sun off.
Or go in the pub until the Suns gone down.

Suck it up, it makes "FA" difference.

I have had my Black SVX for going on 4years. We live at the beach all summer and it is either my Fender of SWMBO's red Fiesta that ends up parked in the sun all day. How much hotter in side is the Fender compared to Fiesty - you would seriously need thermometer to tell.

If it really causes you grief, pull out the hood lining and install some good quality heat insulation mat. That will negate any difference.

Motor did it to a long term test Mitsi Evo in Mat Black. It looked awesome. When they handed it back they just took it off. I have often thought about it on my 90. it would save the paint from all those nasty scratches you get off road. I know you should accept it in a 4wd but I am quite partial to the Orkney Grey on my new 90. Does anyone know how much the wrap is.

I'd be interested in a price for a roof wrap as well, mine's picked up a few scratches when the previous fitted a roof rack :(

Yeah the Silver kind of looks good with the black........

Thats where it ends though, stupidly large bling, bling alloy wheels and crappy radiator grill ruins it. Its a 4wd for Gods sake, not a Pimpmobile....

End of Rant......Happy Again:D

Thanks guys, will dwell on it.

4 yrs living with an SVX sounds like sound advice. Further, had already gone down the roof insulation thought bubble as protective maintenance Had done to previous Disco following headlining adhesive breakdown and replacement.

Note for users: From my friendly motor trimmer; Euro Headlining adhesives in Australia only good for about 10-12 yrs.

Cheers

I just had a customer here who wrapped his new gtr skyline with matt black. Said it cost him $5000! Looks good I have to say. Orkney grey is my pick too, just need to sell the my BMW first

When did you think that Furphy up? ("All ravens are black*")

In Oz 1958 SII 109 Station wagons (the Defender body after all) were all grey (or all red etc). They stayed that way until suffix e with the six cylinder when they were all sandstone. 1958 SII 88 Station wagons were all bronze green. Although both the 88 and 109 wagons did have limestone coloured tropical roofs. .

SII and (most) SIIa utes the same colour roof as the body colour. Only the hard tops got limestone coloured roofs. The SIII was the first model to have a light coloured roof panel with body colour up to the gutter on almost all vehicles. But I guess the 110 would have been the first model you were intimately acquainted with.

That said, I do believe that a light silver/grey roof on a black 90 or 110 wagon would be a good look (IMHO).

Look at ANY vehicle, Aus made, Japanese etc..

Most lose their headlining around 10-12 years

So not only Euro ;)
