60 profile tyres on D4

Several brands available from tire rack US incl Michelin. Price landed here incl shipping normally better than prices here !

The trouble is:
If you import these tyres from the US and you have tyre issues on a trip, you will be stuffed as you can't get them in Aus.

My D4 came std with goodyear 255/55 19s and now I am in a bit of a delima as what to replace them with that is a good highway and allrounder with little noise.

It depends on your requirements, but in standard sizing the 3 tyres I would consider are the Pirelli Scorpion ATR, General Grabber AT and the Cooper Zeon LTZ.

I haven't used the Pirelli but the feedback seems to be positive and I would seriously look at these if I had 2 sets of rims, as a road tyre with some off road capability.

I have used both the GGs and the Coopers. The GGs are good on road and quiet. They are OK off-road but I wouldn't trust them for anything serious as they seem a bit weak. They are cheaper than the others though.

So far, the Coopers seem to be much better off-road. They seem to have a much stronger carcass and appear less prone to chipping. Unfortunately they are not as good as the GGs on-road - noisier and more susceptible to tram-lining. For a tyre with good off-road ability this is quite an acceptable compromise though.

I'm currently running the Coopers and am very happy with my choice. For what I suspect your usage is, I would look at the Pirellis, or the GGs as a cheaper option.

Has anyone got hold of this size? Would they be a legal rise in size? Would they offer much extra clearance? How much would they put the speedo out?

The link is to the Miata tyre calculator. It is easy to use. You just input the stock tyre size and the tyre size you wish to look at.

The answers appear in a few seconds. Regarding 255 55 R19 vs 255 60 R19, the speedometer will read 3.3% slow and the OD is 1" more, 31" rather than the stock 30" OD.

I am a real fan of staying with the door sticker sizes. If you want more clearance, install a LLAMS height controller.

Yeah I think I will stick to the stock size, If I get a puncture I'm :censored: hard enough with the 255/55 when your not in the city.
