I used to have a 3x2m canvas tarp zip-tied to the roofrack of my deefer & stored rolled up with the guy-ropes inside, & a couple of poles in a PVC tube.
If I get one to go with the D2, I'll probably be looking at the batwing type that shade both the side and rear of the vehicle.
all depends what works for you & what you can afford:)
try looking in the camping/campcraft (?) sections of aulro

I went the el chepo option and use either an 8x10 or 6x8 tarp, held to the roof bars with a tent ridge pole. Easy to set up and take off the car. Pics are in this thread...

Totally agree with Toppa, it wasn't that long ago that $300 was the cheapest you could pick up an awning, but look at Tigerz11 as they constantly do sales (like them on Facebook to hear what and when is on sale) I picked up my 2x2.5m awning for $159, I also was a bit sceptical but when I put it up against my mates ARB awning there was very little difference
Cheers
Julian
Ps I am not affiliated with them at all I just think they offer a reasonable product at a great price

That's a very neat job mate! Makes my tarp job look decidedly " Heath Robinson"

Hannibal awanings are extremely good, expensive yes, but it you want something to last, and not look like you have a roll of plastic fixed to you car there well worth looking at. Then beauty of the product is you don't need any form of support, no poles or silly guide rope to trip over.
