Hi All.
I'm considering remapping/chipping my Disco3 tdv6. What's the latest developed and proven chip for it? (power/torque and more importantly fuel economy)
ive heard of people pulling their chip out half way thru a road trip becuase they are guzzling way too much fuel.:twisted:
Where can I find it and how much am i going to be looking at?
I hear someone has made their own chip here in Perth and that they are supposed to be the go!? Does anyone know who he is?
Cheers

REmap not chip. BAS, superchips or similar. You can remove and replace the map at will.

I have a BAS remap and it works great - I can return back to normal and reinstall at will.

Hi have the DP remap and while I don't see a improvement of fuel economy the car is definitely faster and far more responsive, recommended.
@garry
how can you change back and re-instate at will??

The BAS kit comes with a controller which you download your original ECU program to then send a copy off to BAS in the UK by email, he then reprograms it for you depending on if your after HP or even more torque if your doing lots of towing and then resends it back to you to reload.
Thus you always have a copy of the original program and can swap them at will.

As Terry said.
The map can be loaded/removed using top level coding equipment but if you do not have that BAS provides a basic coding tool. You store the new map on your PC and then upload it to the BAS device. You then plug it into your OBD2 port and download your standard map from your car to the BAS device and upload the new map to the car. So you have the two maps stored in the BAS device and can swap them at will - takes about 2 minutes. To ensure you have a backup you copy the maps from the BAS device to your PC. That way both maps live on the BAS device and your PC.
I carry the BAS device in my car so if some issues does happen I can always go back to the original map on the road if needed.
As Terry says - the BAS map is not a generic map but one suited to your car and your requirements. With mine I asked for max torque and left power basically as it was. The map increased my 0-100 time by over 2 seconds - if you use this torque you will naturally have slightly increased fuel consumption but if you drive as you did before, fuel consumption will be better.

ok so I would need to purchase the BAS remapping interface, sounds like a good idea planing to purchase a LR RR L322 as second car so I could use this for both I guess, wish I would have asked that before paying $900 for DP remap.
I assume I could download my DP map with the BAS?

just bought a Hawkeye (still on it's way to me though) would that download current map?

The BAS system locks itself to the cars VIN so cannot be used on other vehicles - also I don't believe that BAS do maps for L322s.

Same process for superchips remap with the bluefin module. Plug into OBD port and follow instructions to enable OEM or remap to ECU.

Steve - IIRC, the DP Chip setup is an intercepter - not a remap. So no, you can't download the DP Chip map.

I've had the BAS remap on my MY07 D3, and now a Bluefin on a MY11 D4 2.7. The BAS unit made a massive difference to the driveability of the D3 -due to turbo lag from idle. It also gave more power/torque and improved fuel economy - using the "balanced" map.
The Bluefin makes a difference to the D4 - but in reality, it is only from 1800 RPM up, as the turbo lag is not as bad in a D4. Fuel economy is marginally better - if you resist the urge of planting your foot! :angel:
The other advantage of the BAS, is the ability to not only read some error codes, but also clear them. (Hint: you can read/clear error codes on any D3 - that is not locked to a car).

@jonesy
Is the BAS as powerful as Hawkeye? Do I regret my Hawkeye purchase now and should have bought a BAS instead?
BAS seems like catching 2 flies with one stroke

No and No. BAS can see DTCs from some of the ECUs - not all. It also can't read live data and some of the other functions that Hawkeye can do.

The Hawkeye is a good diagnostic tool and you can clear any faults the car develops along the way.
Be happy you have a Hawkeye, out in the middle of no where one day you might be very happy you have one. I carry mine in the D3 all the time even though I have little clue how to use all its functions.

@ terry
yes didn't you clear my faults at the boy's night out?
Is there a "Hawkey for Dummies" manual somewhere?
Haven't figured out yet how to clear the faults but only played with it for 20 or so mins. and not sure what kind of damage I could do with it so I'm rather on the cautious site.
