Badging Confusion....

May be an obvious answer I have not picked up on, however in the past week I have seen badging on D4's with engine / model configurations that don't make sense.

3.0TDV6
3.0TDV6HSE
3.0SDV6HSE

I thought the models currently were
TDV6 = 2.7
SdV6 = 3.0
HSE= 3.0

TDV6 - 2.7 no engine size badging
3.0 TDV6 SE/HSE

11 & 12MY's {Diesels only}
TDV6 - 2.7 no engine size badging
SDV6 SE/HSE - 3.0 no engine size badging

13MY's {Diesels only}
TDV6 - 3.0 no engine size badging (Low HP version)
SDV6 SE/HSE - 3.0 no engine size badging (High HP version's)

The 3.0 TDV6 and the 3.0 SDV6 badging were the reason that I assumed the earlier 3.0 only had a single turbo.

As we all saw on the Odd Couple TV show, you know what happens when you assume! :D

I have a MY10 3.0l. I can confirm it's got two turbos.....well on occasions it's only had one....during the secondary turbo change fiasco....LOL!!!

Mine is badged 3.0 TDV6 SE.

Not sue why LR need to change the badging specs every year when in theory the models and engine specs have not changed. Only drives confusion upon resale. Obviously a change in 2013 would make sense with the new engine configs.

S, SE and HSE purely refer to the trim pack on the car. S being your "pov pack" and HSE being the highest quality trim pack. I do believe though that you can only buy certain trim/engine combination. For instance I don't think you can get a V8 in an S or SE trim pack.

I could be wrong though.

S - only D3 (V6 & TDV6)(Coilers & optional Air suspension with Terrain Response)
V8 in D3 guise only availabe in SE or HSE

D4 V8 only HSE (but no badging) only says V8....Mmmm that 5Ltr;)

Not quite right...depends on the build year for some aspects.

So just to clarify...

D4 there is no S, ended with the D3, except when next to DV6, as in SDV6 which is the higher performance 3.0L SE and HSE....I believe.

HSE has both petrol V8 and SDV6 options.

Older model D4s (MY10) SE and above had a 3.0l standard. As stated earlier badged as 3.0 TDV6 SE/HSE.

I guess you could order an SE or HSE with a 2.7L....I guess...?

Yeah I didn't think the S existed anymore, I was just putting it is as a general thing.

Yeah you must have been able to order them, because I've definitely worked on a few. But I'm a mechanic, not a salesman so unfortunately I don't know what the requirements were to order them. But I've definitely seen a fair few.

My 3.0 TDV6 initially didn't have the 3.0 badge due to a shortage of badges in Australia. I had half a mind to not have it fitted to hide the fact that it had a 3.0. That would have confused more people if they knew it was indeed a 3.0.

My late 2009 was the same Graeme.
Had to go back to the dealers at a later date for them to put the '3.0' badge on.
