Hey JimC, I pay about the same as you for a MY2010, D4, 2.7 but get full coverage across the geographic extent of Australia off road and on road, river crossings, beaches, spares and recovery equipment and add on accessories, double $ on personal items value, 1 x wind screen, protected ncb etc.
You get what you pay for!! Having experienced a total write off and the personal $ losses that means on a minimalist low cost insurance policy I have no hesitation on paying a premium for a premium.
Read all the fine print and be very aware of what you really get for the lowest cost.

06 tdv6 d3 with AAMI pay about $750 with windscreen insurance they originally quoted $1450 so do what I did and tell them you are pulling all your policies as you can't justify a $300 increase they will soon come to the party, it might be wise to get a few cheaper policies to throw at them
Good luck Jim

I was going to post this separately but since this OP is already running I will post here.
What have you guys done about your accessories? Has anyone experienced problems with their insurers on accessories and do you have them separately listed in your policy?

My Comp Insurance is with NRMA on a 2010 D4 HSE. For the last 2 years had Windscreen Option and an agreed value of $98200. Premium was only around $640 per year. This year, Agreed value at $82400 and premium only dropped to $637, again with windscreen option :(
Made a no fault claim for a minor bingle in the rear recently, fixed quickly without drama.

The bandits at SGIO just suggested I will be paying $2304.97 next year for my MY08 D3 basis $51k agreed value. Car lives in metro WA suburb variously known for having its nice cars stolen for use as shopping centre door opening devices in outlying suburbs (same could be said for neighboring 6 suburbs).
Me and wifey are 60% permanent no claim bonus drivers.
Thanks for the information here as will be shopping this one around.
Car is in a company name - can others comment on if having in company name or private name should / will make a big difference? Assume if drivers nominated both have 60% no claim bonus it should not make any difference?

I just paid my insurance with Allianz. 2010 D4 HSE in company name and paid about $1300 about 200 more than last year - will look around again on next renewal. I moved from AAMI a year ago as they jacked up my insurance to more than $1900. Haven't had an accident in 30 years.
I think they like to make it cheap for you to get you on board then stick it to you over the next few years.
I would think that you should pay less than me!

Don't forget to get quotes with a higher excess. I raised my excess to $1,500 and it brought the annual down.
I haven't made an at fault claim (touch wood) in the 14 years of driving so far, so thought it was a better option.
Suncorp is a little pricey compared to some others but they hardly ask questions and get things fixed/replaced from my experiences.

MY11 2.7 SE, insurance renewal pre Xmas cost about a grand with RAC with full no claims etc and agreed value at $70k
A word of warning on windscreen cover. Check the PDS on whether they use OEM or not. As I have just found out RAC will only fund an aftermarket screen costing about 400 bucks as opposed to an OEM one costing over a grand. Seems there are significant quality differences and is a reasonable out of pocket cost to fund the difference unless you make a full insurance claim.
Worth shopping around in general, was getting quotes of between $500 and over $2,000 online which seemed a ridiculous spread. Went with RAC as it seemed reasonable compared to others but the windscreen issue has now put me off them,

Gotaflat has a good point there, when I moved from Qld to Vic it went up. Insurance companies bring in factors like car theft, animal strikes, fire and flooding in that area.
I know when the floods went through Qld, some people went to low lying flood areas, parked their cars and claimed the flood damage. Sure they got a new car but the people in those areas premiums went up.
Where I am now there is a high claim single vehicle (animal strikes) and fire risk.
