The clutches are horridly expensive I hear.

Also, very bad ground clearance in general: the guys over here need to do a 50mm lift before they can go anywhere.

Go for a D22 over a D40, much better package for the price, more tried and tested too. Parts are cheaper too from what i have heard.

Yep the NP300/D22 is a better package and you could have access to the YD25 engine anyway.

" In the D22 Navara/Kingcab/Frontier the engine is essentially the same other than modifications to accessories, mounts and plumbing to accommodate the longitudinal engine layout. The turbo is a wastegated IHI RHF4 which is also intercooled. The stronger gearbox allows it to produce more torque than the Presage/Bassara version."

Nissan YD engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: 2.5-litre, DOHC, 16V, 4-cylinder, Turbo diesel intercooler, producing 98 kW (133 PS; 131 hp) @ 4000 rpm and 304 N·m (31 kg·m; 224 lb·ft) @ 2000 rpm.

IMHO a better engine than the ZD30......

Try and find a D40 that doesn't blow heaps of smoke, you will struggle. hopeless from a brand new car. My mates 2011 blows more than my 4BD1! and as said before has about the same clearance as a honda CRV.

I had a Pathfinder 2.5 D Auto (2007 model) before the D4. I found the engine noisy and in my opinion the auto box wasn't matched to the engine. Fuel economy started at 11L/100 on average when I first got the car and gradually went up over the 4 years to 15.5L/100. This is likely due to the DPF regeneration cycle which doesn't complete due to short trips. After the 50,000 service the oil level started going up to over max, I presume this was due to unburnt fuel (and the DPF regen cycle) mixing in with engine oil. But it never let us down until the evening of the day I test drove a D4. It sounded like a bearing in the alternator went (62,000km). I didn't wait to find out what it was, traded it in for a D4 the next day.

My dad has the ZD30 D22, never had an issue with it.
He didn't even change the oil for...err...a long time :p :wasntme:
Very comfortable to drive, I just found that the steering wheel interfered with my view of the instruments a bit too much.
Plenty of go, nice clutch weight, very easy to drive.
But at the end of the day, It's a nissan and I rubbish him for it :D
