Defender slop in transmission

Hi Folks
I'm slowly working through the various items that need attention on my 97 Defender (I'm a relative newbie to Landy's) and the slop in the transmission is next on the list. So with the vehicle parked on level ground and the handbrake off and in neutral, I've got about 10 to 15 degrees play in the front propellor shaft and less, say 5 to 10 degrees, in the rear propellor shaft (just an eyeball estimate)
I'm fairly sure I need to replace LH cv joint at least, but I thought I'd ask if anyone could offer any suggestions on the likely source and remedy.

Take the plastic caps off the front drive flanges, get someone else to lie under the car to turn the front shaft back and forth, with everything in neutral, handbrake off, and wheels chocked so the car dosent run over them,

then eyeball the slop in the axle to driveflange splines , best you see it yourself than have them try to explain it to you.

most of the slop will be the front diff and drive flanges

when I put new flanges and changed my front diff from a standard rover to a truetrac the propshaft freeplay went from about 15 degrees to about 5 degrees, and my Defender was only 130,000 klm old at the time.
