I would like to know what causes the following problem.

Situation:

Wireless modem/router is on with all lights on working normal.
Laptop have the wireless connected
VoIP is working on the modem.

Event:
Microwave oven switched on
Internet connected and Google is on
Unable to connect to Gmail
AULRO is working but logging on is slow
VoIP is working, all the light on modem on, LT wireless working

Microwave switched off
Gmail works ok

The microwave is only 4 months old, it is about 4m form the modem and the modem about 4 m form the LT.
Which kind of frequency could cause this? Could be a leakage on the microwave?

maybe not the microwave itself but the motor that spins the turntable?

Microwave overlaps in the same band as wireless 802.11g, ie 2.4GHz. If you have a 802.11n wireless set up I think it can operate at either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. If you have 802.11n wireless make sure it is operating at the higher frequency.

Other thing you do is move the modem further from the micro wave.

it can also be broad spectrum interferance from poorly shielded switch mode power supplies.

I have a dell laptop power supply that If I put it on the desk with the laptop or near the router it kills the wifi, it always hurts the laptops connection when running on the mains but on batteries (even on low power settings) the wifi is great.

At a guess RF from the Microwave.

I have also seen Walkabout phones (i.e. the radio ones) cause problems with ADSL and usually need a better filter. I have also seen fridges (i.e. electric motors) cause problems with computer equipment.

Seeing it just seems to be the Microwave either try and move your modem/router further away, or if you want to test put a spare piece of metal (or cardboard covered in alfoil) between the two and earth it (or lean it on something metal that is earthed - preferable not the microwave if it causing the problem) and if the problem goes away or gets better this would most likely be the issue. If you are lucky enough to have a meter that can measure in that band even better.
