They drop off sometimes, they aren't very secure if not fixed properly in the first place. They are cheap too, about $28 IIRC.

I once caught mine dislodged and within a poofteenth of falling off after dragging the bumper heavily. I generally leave it off now.

Yep, they fall off. Must replace mine one day. Usually not long after a new owner removes one....

The link below shows the quarter turn clip, Land Rover part # DYR500010 that either snaps or does not rotate and clip properly; hence you end up buying a new tow loop cover. I have yet to buy a new cover but have purchased quite a few of these clips - always keep a few spare - they are not cold weather friendly.

These are also the clip for retaining the front tow loop cover, at least on the 3. They run about a dollar each here in the New World.

If you haven't got one yet I still have a spare D3 one lying around here, not needed since mitchhitch but also lost one before in the bush so they do fall off
