Hi all

I had a set of these rims on my MTB for about two years....and in that time they have been nothing but trouble.

The rear has suffered 2 broken/shattered hubs and I even split the rim lengthways between 3 spokes. The front was always getting trued. Then I started to question my riding style...and even my body weight!!!:o The Chukker was advertised as a stronger and beefer wheel.. FALSE!!! The hub is just a standard road hub I have since found out.

Swapped them this week for a set of Alex DV MTB rims...see how they go.

Anyone else have any experience with the Velocity Chukker MTB rims?

Cheers

Back in my bicycle courier days of the early to mid nineties when Velocity came onto the scene, some of the couriers were using the rims, on and off road, and they nearly all failed. They would, as you say, crack lengthways, sometimes near the spokes, and sometimes on the sidewall below where the bead for the tyre is.

I had been told more recently by a very reliable source that they quality is much better these days so it's interesting to hear your experience Andrew.

It's still Mavic all the way for me .

I was given 3 sets when I was racing. Took one set for a training ride. 20 years later they are still stilling under the house.

hate to say it, but last time I looked a broken hub (or two) hasn't got anything to do with a dodgy rim ;-)

never ridden them myself, but like anything in life, you get what you pay for.

that's why I ride ENVE, HED or Zipp... although it does help that I can get em all for distro prices ;-)
