Patsy and I arrived home round about 1115 or so this morning after a most enjoyable if not slightly damp weekend at Canungra. The weather did put a slight damper on this outing, but the club, in its inimitable way rose above any hardship that Mother Nature could throw in the form of drizzly weather and put on a great and entertaining weekend. Our congratulations and thanks to all those who had input in this event, not only the band of committee but also those who helped out behind the scenes, collecting wood, decorating shelters, arranging seating, supplying outside cover for the fires and a myriad of other little selfless acts, and that covers possibly the majority of the members of the club. Stand up all and take a bow.
We ran Sweetpea down on her inaugural southern run for this event and I for one was pleased to get to Canungra on Friday almost before the rain set in. Not quite, but almost! Because of the weather, she sat under her personal shelter all weekend and hid from the rain.

On the Friday night there were about 10 or 11 campsites occupied and that night a modest but comfortable fire was lit in a half 44 gallon drum container under a large shelter and a good night was had by all.
The morning broke to showers of rain and these stayed with us for most of the day, enough to satisfy the kids as far as puddles were concerned but not wet enough to stop people from moving about socialising. Patsy and Rose walked to town to do a little shopping and didn't get too damp.
More people turned up, some to camp for the night and others for the day's do and AGM.
By lunch time there was a reasonably impressive line of aluminium and plastic lined up outside the under cover site of the festivities.

and inside, under the protection of the large roofed area there was a number of members and families enjoying the atmosphere.
Food was supplied by an outside caterer and the meal, from my perspective, was simply great, a wide variety of meats and salads, well cooked, well presented and an ample amount. Sweets went down just as well.

Congratulations to all concerned in the running of the club over the past 12 months, and also to those that filled the shoes of those members who stood down from their previous positions.
Saturday night saw Australia rack up a couple of million dollar's worth of carbon pollution points in the form of a fire that any arsonist would be proud of, a typical "white fella's" fire, so big you have to sit 100 yards away from it so you didn't melt. A great atmosphere and good fun was had by all.
I believe that this fire served well right through the night keeping a number of bodies surrounding it warm and cosy!
As a postscript, on the way home, we picked up Sweetpea's new roof (that would have been very handy in the rain!)

Great weekend. Thanks everyone for looking after we old and frail phhtts!
