Hey Flandie owners.

Since I am up 'n over and work on left hookers I have found countless units with loose steering racks when being serviced.

I have had four units to date all having detached racks over this year and all come in on the hook for repair, scared the bejesus out of the owners!
From what I can deduce is that the non active side bolt pair coming loose first and then reversals work the column side until they sheer off.

Repair isn't easy since to get good drill, easy out access to the bolt tails in the captive body nuts you have to drop the power pack, about a 15 hour repair job!
These days we cut two round holes in the floor under the pedals, spin out the tails, recover he thread and re-bolt the rack in place using 8.8 bolts and some blue loctite. Works well so far. then make good the repair with the Tig welder and some small round patches.

I have had some dialogue with a bloke in the UK with the same problem, and since his a right hooker it seems the problem can effect both variants.

I suggest if you have a Flandie take a wrench to the bolts some time just for safety sake.
Cheers Dennis
