Snorkel ideas for V8 D4?????

So what are my options? Landrover only offer right side RAI/Snorkels. I don't know of any left side available commercially. I've done some reasonably deep (800-900mm) crossings with no prob. The D4 produces a pretty nice bow wave that keeps the water well away from intakes but I'm concerned about the upstream side of faster running crossing or dropping a wheel in a hole and getting a healthy splash.
So looking for ideas for something I clip on/ bolt on/ secure before a deep crossing and then remove after.

(maybe I should just kill the engine and get a tow across anything that looks risky...)

Hmm, I think a temporary "patch" that you'd put on just before crossing is the real only option - no-one manufactures a LHS RAI as no demand for it. I suspect 0.1% of D4 V8's will ever do a river crossing....well until about 2020 something!

I probably wouldn't patch it, it can throw up codes and restrict performance. As it will need to be an air right patch, it will probably starve the engine of air as well.

Oh there is a thread in General Chat that suggests a petrol engine and a diesel are both as good in water....

You'd think the accessories would support that.....:)

I'm thinking the lack of accessories relates more to the likely demand for a left hand snorkel for people wanting to do deep river crossings in a $130k+ car than a reflection of the suitability or diesel vs petrol debate. For the record, I think you are in a slightly better position with a petrol engine full of water than a diesel engine full of water. :-)

Why not do an experiment and see what happens if you put a tape patch over the left-hand air intake. My suspicion is that an alarm would only be generated when you have high air intake rates (full revs and full throttle), which is hopefully not when doing a water crossing. I haven't checked but suspect some Canadian or US sites may have come up with a fix on snorkles for river crossings.

If the tape patch doesn't cause a major problem, then the remaining challenge would be how to adapt a diesel intake to fit into the V8's induction system.

I'm interested in the results of this as I'm planning to work in the Middle East (nthn Iraq - completely safe other than drunk drivers) and can only get V8 D4's there - even in the SE model. There are some river crossings and camping is a big thing. I was planning to patch the LH air intake to see if that worked before reading this post.
