Ok I picked up the Defender this afternoon, managed to get to tyre shop in time and the KM2's are on it.
Just got a few questions I did not have time to run through with the salesman as I took off pretty quick to make it to tyre shop.
1) While I was driving I was looking for the tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, does anyone know where it is?
2) I cant find the Traction Control Button
3) I have no idea where the switches are for the rear power windows, or are they only controllable from the back
4) Also while the air con button is pressed in and the fan is on Zero it still works???
5) I could not see the cruise control buttons either, (I feel pretty stupid they must be right in plain view and I cant see them)
6) Also the trip computers, uno distance to empty, trip time etc etc, cant see them either?
7) And for the life of me I cant get the bluetooth working on the radio deck?
8) I will also have to take it back next week, because I think while it was in the yard someone must have stolen the side map pockets.
9) Im just curious is anyone else's Puma missing the mirrors from under the sunviser? Mines missing, this means the wife will keep using my rear view for her makeup.
10) The buggers I reckon must have swapped the new drivers seat for a used one, because my ass sits lower than my knees, its like the padding is missing??
11) I thought this was missing the Horn, but I ended up finding that, it was on the blinker, Ha go figure, a horn on a blinker:confused:
Now besides those few little items I cant find, its great, oh I did get a sore shin from the handbrake, but i'll try work out a way to relocate that up on top of the dash, seems like there is plenty of room up there.
I had a funny experience though, there must have been an aeroplane or helicopter following me home, and although I did not see them to make out what it was, they were there the whole way home, and every-time I stopped at the lights it sounded like it was going to land on my roof. Now I don't consider myself psychic but whenever I turned the air conditioning off the Plane or Helicopter would go away. Beats me?????:confused::confused: Oh and at one stage I thought I lost them when I turned a corner from lane 1 and ended up in lane 3.
Your not going to believe this either, heaps of people must have really loved it, because every time I would turn at a roundabout they would all beep there horns and wave at me, I thought it was really nice, they must have been able to tell it was a new car. It did get a bit anoying after a while, it was like I was famous or sumthin  all that beeping and waving, I have no idea why they would wait for me to get to the roundabout first to wave & beep
Anyways, here is some photos

Ok I picked up the Defender this afternoon, managed to get to tyre shop in time and the KM2's are on it.
Just got a few questions I did not have time to run through with the salesman as I took off pretty quick to make it to tyre shop.
1) While I was driving I was looking for the tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, does anyone know where it is?
There isn't one.
2) I cant find the Traction Control Button
There isn't one.
3) I have no idea where the switches are for the rear power windows, or are they only controllable from the back
No idea.. I have a 90 :p
4) Also while the air con button is pressed in and the fan is on Zero it still works???
Yup, mine does too.. push the air con button in (to off) and it stops.
5) I could not see the cruise control buttons either, (I feel pretty stupid they must be right in plain view and I cant see them)
There isn't one lol..
6) Also the trip computers, uno distance to empty, trip time etc etc, cant see them either?
Hahahaha! See above..
7) And for the life of me I cant get the bluetooth working on the radio deck?
As above...(I think)..
8) I will also have to take it back next week, because I think while it was in the yard someone must have stolen the side map pockets.
You so already know the answer to this one..
9) Im just curious is anyone else's Puma missing the mirrors from under the sunviser? Mines missing, this means the wife will keep using my rear view for her makeup.
Yup someone stole mine too.. not happy Jan.. grab a couple of those little ones at Super cheap with the elastic band..
10) The buggers I reckon must have swapped the new drivers seat for a used one, because my ass sits lower than my knees, its like the padding is missing??
I don't have a problem... but then I am only 5 foot tall..:p
11) I thought this was missing the Horn, but I ended up finding that, it was on the blinker, Ha go figure, a horn on a blinker:confused:
Yup.. wait until you go to beep someone and hit the windscreen wipers by mistake lol..
Now besides those few little items I cant find, its great, oh I did get a sore shin from the handbrake, but i'll try work out a way to relocate that up on top of the dash, seems like there is plenty of room up there.
Nope.. you have to put your GPS, UHF and tyre monitor somewhere... buy shin guards.. :o
I had a funny experience though, there must have been an aeroplane or helicopter following me home, and although I did not see them to make out what it was, they were there the whole way home, and every-time I stopped at the lights it sounded like it was going to land on my roof. Beats me?????:confused::confused: Oh and at one stage I thought I lost them when I turned a corner from lane 1 and ended up in lane 3.
Same Helicopter follows me too.. And god knows where that semi is.. ;)

Congratulations, now it's your job to see everything is fixed under warranty, that a Cruise Control and a Blue Tooth enabled stereo are fitted, and then to load it up with other goodies. Those of us who can only buy 2nd hand expect all that stuff to already be sorted.
Just so you know, we generally like lockers, snorkels, cargo barriers, rear wheel carriers, long range tanks, radios (UHF or HF), upgraded shocks (may I suggest Bilstein or KONI), and a bar with a winch. Oh and don't forget the window tinting. We tend to be peculiar about tyres and lights, so we can sort that part out later.

its a marginal word and it depends on how you aim it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/****_%28computer_worm%29
and from the free dictionary (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/****) definition #2 is
2. A detestable person.
in its adjtective role it means
bad, useless, or worthless
and closely related words are Jargon, lingo and vernacular.
all appropriate to people who advertise something as better when they really mean easier.

Dave,
What are you talking about, you guys on here sold me the Defender it was the easiest sale the salesman ever had.
Thanks to everyone's advise, you all loved your defenders so much even through bad times, that I got jealous and wanted to be part of that. After all we just want to be loved.
Was there marketing available on it, I must of missed that one. Mmmm
Maybe it's still to new to tell, but I'm wondering why you all love them so much. Maybe I'm too shallow and I have to look at its personality. :D

So tonight I found another problem. The drivers door would not close properly, it would take at least 3 attempts for it to shut. I worked out if you sit in the front passengers seat and reach over to shut the door it closes properly, funny mob these Brits, they must have put sensors in the passenger seat for the drivers door to close properly, beats me why
Another thing I noticed is I drove it in Sydney tonight around Surry Hills and every time I turned a corner people were coming on my side of the road I know they are small lanes but gees don't these city folk know how to drive.
It was strange though because I was only there a week ago (in Surry Hills) and I could have sworn the streets were wider. I am most certain, 100% sure they have made the streets narrower, now why would they go and do that. Silly it makes it hard for us to turn.
Oh and now that I'm clued up I lost track of that aircraft by turning off the A/C. That showed them.
Oh and that saw shin, well it's even more saw now, I figure it will eventually get calluses on there and then I won't be able to feel anything. Problem solved:D
Are you guys sure these things were designed in UK I truly believe they date back to Japan, I think they were ancient oriental Japanese women's cars. You know the ones with the tiny bound up feet and all. I reckon they had plenty of room In those footwells.
I must say it is a hell of a lot smoother than the Hilux was on road, it soaks up bumps and roundabouts better. I'm impressed!
Has anyone noticed that the steering wheel is sooooo big. I can't see the front of the vehicle.
I think those seats in it are scientifically designed because I seem to sit with my back very straight, and now that I think about it I see heaps of landy owners with such good posture either that or they just finished licking the windscreen. Not sure, I'll look for saliva on the windows next time. I must admit I was tempted to lick mine tonight, don't tell anyone but gees it was right there in front of me, how could I not:D :D:D
Anyways I'll keep you all posted as I discover new things, this is fun. A bit like an adventure and all.
I'll post more pics tomorrow.
P.S can anyone tell me if the corrosion in the engine bay is normal, see pics at beginning of thread. Because I am sure I did not pay extra for this option, I see other Defenders fitted with this option, but I thought it was only available on older models:confused:
Cheers,

I had Daniel down at mulgo install the seat rail extensions into the 90, it affords the discearning gentleman a few extra inches where he can sit back and admire the bugs that I am sure fly faster into the windshield than any other car I have owned
They do however make it a lot harder to have ones elbow out the window on a sunny day ;)

No, we speak Australian in Australia, check out your language settings in most computers and word processors have a setting for it.
I've been to england and from what I recall there are very few people in the place that speak proper english anymore hell most of them cant even use the full 26 letters of the alphabet so I'm stuffed if I know how they think they can claim to speak english.
The other thing that you may have noticed on the trip over is that Australia is some what bigger than england and that Australians are somewhat lazier than the poms (except at sports in general, technological developments since 1788, cuisine, agriculture, education) so we have room to allow things to develop more than one use/purpose/definition which works for us on the lazy level since we dont have to come up with something new every time we want to do something near enough.

Completely impossible.:o
Another thing I noticed is I drove it in Sydney tonight around Surry Hills and every time I turned a corner people were coming on my side of the road I know they are small lanes but gees don't these city folk know how to drive.

I am most certain, 100% sure they have made the streets narrower, now why would they go and do that. Silly it makes it hard for us to turn. I turned the steering travel stops bolts in by 1.5 turns. Makes the steering lock much closer to a battleship from the standard aircraft carrier turning circle.;)
Oh and now that I'm clued up I lost track of that aircraft by turning off the A/C. That showed them.
Oh and that saw shin, well it's even more saw now, I figure it will eventually get calluses on there and then I won't be able to feel anything. Problem solved:D Hmmm. Saw shin or sore shin? Taking to your shin with a saw seems a little extreme to me. I suppose you could take to the handbrake lever with a saw to resolve the sore issue? Or maybe tape a dictionary to your saw shin?:D
Yep - and it stays that way regardless of how much weight you put on or in it or how much weight you tow. You do realise that you can go around the roundabouts don't you?
Has anyone noticed that the steering wheel is sooooo big. I can't see the front of the vehicle. Look closer. It's elliptical so is only only big for half its diameter.
I think those seats in it are scientifically designed because I seem to sit with my back very straight, and now that I think about it I see heaps of landy owners with such good posture either that or they just finished licking the windscreen. Not sure, I'll look for saliva on the windows next time. I must admit I was tempted to lick mine tonight, don't tell anyone but gees it was right there in front of me, how could I not:D :D:DAll the protein is on the outside, not the inside! You'll only get hungry licking the inside.
Anyways I'll keep you all posted as I discover new things, this is fun. A bit like an adventure and all. I really didn't like mine the first drive. By the time I'd driven the 400kms back home it was growing on me and I like it more every drive. It's a keeper!
I'll post more pics tomorrow.

So tonight I found another problem. The drivers door would not close properly, it would take at least 3 attempts for it to shut.
Babs.
ha, you just have to slam it harder. For a car with gaps and holes all over the place, it pressurises very well when you shut the door.
However you will find in time the rear windows will lower themselves about an an inch automatically. Then you will find you no longer have to slam the door. Just another Defender moment.
If the surface rust in the engine bay is a bother, don't lie under the car and ponder how much larger everything is compared to the old hilux. The surface rust may surprise. Still after it has had a spray of dirt and mud it's hard to see it exist anymore.

Babs you are too funny!
Having had mine a grand total of 16 nights (still counting the sleeps) and 1600 km, I have come across just about everything you have.
Mine is also slow to change gears in the morning. 1st to second does not want to be rushed when cold.
You may have also noticed that the engine will do strange things between gear shifts - still haven't seen a pattern yet.
Failed negotiating a round about a week ago. Do not attempt a U-turn on a small round about - you won't make it! Not wanting to take a three point turn on a round about I mounted the curb and continued on - I guess this is the Defender way.

There are a few landy owners out there that believe the real reason land rover came into existence was that Rover, instead of fixing the turning circle on their road cars and ending it there, went about it the british (not the easiest) way and made a car that could go anywhere to turn around.

Don't worry about that corrosion problem as all Landys come fitted from the factory with an automatic anti-corrosion device that activates not too long after warranty expires. Some owners mistake this AACD for an oil leak (or three) but they are misinformed. Others think they are 'marking their territory', and they are a bit closer to the mark. :D

No you see I was always lead to believe that Land Rover make them have oil leaks. For two reason. First is that is provides a constant refreshed underseal for he chassis therefore protecting it from rust. Second is it makes the importance of changing the oil in the engine not quite do important. As it self changes its oil over the time allotted distance.

See below for my response to Bab's issues with the new Defenders!

I have discovered that if you want to tilt your steering wheel at a backwards angle you have to drive up a hill, and logically, if you want to tilt it at a forward angle drive downhill.

4) Also while the air con button is pressed in and the fan is on Zero it still works???

My air conditioning doesn't seem to work - it has the metal stampings on the outside of the vehicle at the front where, on previous models, the air conditioning was installed, but on mine it isn't connected, maybe it's hiding behind the plastic dashboard.

5) I could not see the cruise control buttons either, (I feel pretty stupid they must be right in plain view and I cant see them)

I have discovered the secret to working the manual cruise control - the buttons are foot operated in the driver's side footwell - the right hand button sets the vehicle at a higher speed and middle button slows down - decide what speed you want to travel at, and watch your speedo whilst adjusting the speed using the 2 aforementioned buttons.

7) And for the life of me I cant get the bluetooth working on the radio deck?

Bluetooth is totally unecessary in these vehicles as mobile phone reception is unavailable in these areas that the Landrovers go, ie the outback and metropolitan Sydney

8) I will also have to take it back next week, because I think while it was in the yard someone must have stolen the side map pockets.

Instead they have a nice flat windscreen to stick the suction cap of your GPS to.

9) Im just curious is anyone else's Puma missing the mirrors from under the sunviser? Mines missing, this means the wife will keep using my rear view for her makeup.

Sunvisor mirrors? The lack of sunvisor mirrors is to protect the public. I have a 90 and it's the last vehicle that I would recommend for trying to put you lipstick on whilst the vehicle is in motion. It's too bouncy and you would end up with lipstick all over your face and even up your nose. Purely a safety and fashion ommission.

Hence why i'm stuck on giving it a name, I have never named a car, unless its broken down, then i've named it Lemon, Dud, piece of "uno what", etc etc
Everyone else on here has seemed to name theirs, I don't want to be a kill joy. Go on give yours a name as well.

Mine was a little second hand (not much) when I bought it.

Strangely enough it came with cruise control that looks like a factory fit. I tried to use it, it wouldn't work. I thought maybe these are radio controls - they were not..

Turns out there is an aftermarket kit available, there is a switch over near the wifes knee that I have to hit, it is marked with an = button (why? who knows?) and turns on an orange light.

No bull, it works the cruise control which keeps the vehicle roughly within 10kph of where I set it - give or take.

I too struggled with a name and ended up with Tom - as it came with "cruise" . Stupid maybe, but hey it worked at the time.

Only problem I have now is that since fitting the safari rack Tom won't go back into the closet, he's just a whisker too tall to fit - ironic isn't it!
