Not sure if this is the right place but!!!

After having some welding mods done to my powder coated rear bumper bar and swing arms etc, the time has come for a pretty up - what are my options?

Q1 - Does re-powdercoating require pre-stripping of the previous treatment?

Q2 - Is spray painting in matt or satin black 2 pack a viable alternative?

Comments on any necessary pre-treatments, relative costs and wear characteristics welcomed!

Q3 - Likewise, can aluminium be treated with 2 pack and retain reasonable wear characteristics - anodising won't cut the mustard, and subject to comments above, powder coating may be significantly more expensive.

Many thanks in anticipation. Gavin

Q1 - Does re-powdercoating require pre-stripping of the previous treatment? - No, you can powdercoat straight over existing powdercoat, but be aware that the thickness build up and can start to look a bit ugly.

Q2 - Is spray painting in matt or satin black 2 pack a viable alternative? - Yes, but the finish won't be as hard as Powdercoat. If you get the prep right though, the finish will be a lot better with 2 pack than with powdercoat - it depends on what you're after.

Many thanks in anticipation. Gavin

Thanks Gav - exactly what I was looking for! Looks like some sanding coming up and initially a visit to the powdercoaters for costings
